Book Buddies

Book buddies have begun! We have paired up with Mrs. Albertson's fourth grade class this year for book buddies. We sit EEKK (elbow to elbow, knee to knee) so we can listen to reading and use pictures for context clues in order to fully comprehend what is occurring in the story. Once the fourth graders have read their book, our first graders read their "good fit books" to their buddy. The buddy knows to give time or a hint before telling our first graders what a word is or how it is pronounced.

Don't forget to help kiddos practice their weekly poem at home! We will present our weekly poem to book buddies each week for compliments and a critique. We received a big crocodile clap after sharing our first poem this week!

Dot Day!

At home, Sadie painted a log to look just like a beautiful dot! :} At school, we painted dots, learned about math Touchpoints (invisible dots on numbers), and used our imaginations to make dots into something else. Wow - what a fun day full of learning!

About Mrs. Ackenbom

I am from a military family and grew up in several areas around the United States. I received my B.A. from the University of Mary Washington in American Studies. I enjoyed Mary Washington so much that I decided to stay and get my Masters of Science in Elementary Education. This will be my tenth year as a teacher and I love being a part of a child's individual learning journey. In addition to teaching, I am passionate about horseback riding and being active outside. I am very excited to be working at Crozet Elementary this year!

About Us

We are Mrs. Ackenbom's Little Ponies! We want to learn something new every day. We use kind words with others. We treat others with kindness and compassion. We share. We take turns. We apologize. We have fun. We are first graders at Crozet Elementary - where we inspire and are inspired by the world around us!
