CHECK IN AND OUT PROCEDURES
Checking Students Out
Office staff will conduct all signing in and out of students. Parents may call to check-out students and then the student is sent out to the parent with visual identification. For in-person checking out, once a student is checked out, the parent will go back to their vehicle and the student will be sent out by the office. School Phone Number: 316-218-4630
Checking Students In
Staff members will check students in to create a touchless system. Students need to have temperature checked before proceeding to class if they are arriving for the first time that day.
9 Things to Know Before Winter Break
As we approach our winter break, here are a few updates and reminders:
1. Winter break: Winter break runs Dec. 21 through Jan. 3, with school resuming on Monday, Jan. 4.
2. Early dismissal: As has been the custom in our district, school will dismiss two hours early on the last day before winter break. This year, that is Friday, Dec. 18.
3. No meal distribution: There is no meal pick-up during winter break. Meal distribution will resume Jan. 4. As a reminder, these meals are for any student learning remotely and are available on weekdays from noon-1 p.m. at Andover Central High School, Door L.
4. Communication expectations: Teachers last contract day before the holiday break is December 18. We are encouraging them to enjoy time away, so please know that if you send an email after Dec. 18, you should expect a response no earlier than when they return from holiday break on Jan. 4.
5. COVID team meeting: Our COVID Response and Assessment Team meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, to discuss current health conditions and the outlook for the second semester. These meetings are livestreamed at www.usd385.org/roadmap, where you also can provide feedback about the school year.
6. COVID guidelines: Butler and Sedgwick counties have now adopted the CDC/KDHE shortened quarantine guidelines for those deemed close contacts of those testing positive for COVID. The district is reviewing the new guidelines and is working through a number of related issues. We currently anticipate implementation of any new procedures to begin after winter break.
7. COVID safety campaigns: Seven area districts recently combined efforts to produce a video encouraging the community to follow COVID safety measures to give our students their best chance of being in their classrooms the rest of the year. You can watch that video here.
Also, Andover Public Schools is teaming with the City of Andover, the Andover Area Chamber of Commerce Butler Community College for a #MaskUpAndover campaign, which will tie into the statewide #MaskUpKansas campaign. To show your support, download this flyer and take a selfie with your reason for wearing a mask, and include the hashtag #MaskUpAndover. Or, if you prefer, simply take a photo of yourself wearing a mask, and use #MaskUpAndover. Thank you for doing everything you can to keep our community safe!
8. Spectator guidelines: The Kansas High School Activities Association Board of Directors voted Tuesday to allow limited spectators at winter athletic events and activities. The decision allows for up to two parents/guardians per participant to attend, as allowed by the local Board of Education or health department.
9. Notes of gratitude: This has been a stressful, uncertain year. If your family has a teacher or someone else in the district who has helped you through 2020, please consider writing them a note of thanks and gratitude. These encouraging messages can do a lot to raise spirits and recharge batteries for the second half of the year.
