A Note From Mrs. Daly
Dear VL Families,
Welcome to the new calendar year 2021! New beginnings always offer opportunities to start fresh with a renewed sense of hope and positivity. An optimistic approach to the challenges we will continue to face together will remain important as the pandemic continues to create obstacles for us all. However, we will continue to work tirelessly to teach our children so they continue to learn. We are also stronger and smarter than we were after having to learn an endless amount about the resiliency and capacity of our children and ourselves.
Please also continue to prepare for returning to in-person learning tomorrow.
- paying close attention to the health of your family and staying home when showing ANY symptoms
- consistently wearing masks, keeping your distance from others, and washing hands
- making the safe choice to quarantine after any travels out of town.
Warmly,
Mrs. Daly
Winter is Here
Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should be dressed appropriately. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.
Since there is snow on the ground and the weather being colder, please send jackets, snow pants, snow boots, hats, and gloves with your students. They NEED to be worn at ALL times. They may also need to bring a change of clothes in the chance that they get wet if they do not have these items.Calendar Dates
