Principal's Message
Thank you for virtually joining our teachers for conferences last month. I want to thank you again for your continued partnership and support during this time of distance learning. Please continue to monitor Zoom attendance and completion of asynchronous independent assignments to ensure that your student doesn't fall behind in their learning.
I also want to thank you for staying connected daily with the Class Dojo app which is our primary way to communicate with families during this time. We appreciate families taking a few minutes each day to check for announcements and messages.
We have some fun arts and crafts activities planned this month, so plan on joining us the evening of Wednesday, December 16 when we will have our community partners from the Maloof House providing a family art night virtually for our Arroyo families! Students can also join our student mentor, Miss Arroyo, for some Fun Friday afternoon arts and crafts activities this month. Zoom links will be posted on Class Dojo.
Wishing you all a safe and healthy December and holiday season!
Sincerely,
-Mrs. Bennett

Arroyo Family Art Enrichment Activity
Sam Maloof was passionate about upcycling so our online art project will focus on that. We will be creating collages together in an effort to reuse some materials we have at home.
To create our collages, Arroyo will be providing you with cardstock and glue sticks during lunch pick ups.
You will need to gather any magazines, newspapers, advertisements, or any other paper materials that can be repurposed for this art project. The Zoom link for this event will be posted on Class Dojo.

December IB Profile Trait: Courageous
This month, we are encouraging our Arroyo Bears to be courageous. We want our students to take risks exploring new ideas and stepping out of their comfort zone. Being a risk taker is a lifelong skill that teaches us to be resilient and face challenges. However, being courageous can look different for everyone. For some of our quieter students, being a risk-taker can mean raising our hand in class. For others, it might mean exploring a new genre of books.
Although taking risks has the chance of failure, it also gives our students the opportunity to improve. Be sure to praise your student for being courageous as they take action.
Reindeer Run
Hello OMSD staff and families, please plan to join us for the 8th Annual Reindeer Run and Rudolph Dash to support Promise Scholars This event will be VIRTUAL and held on Saturday, Dec. 12th. Take part from the comfort of your home or a local park trail. Our virtual event is a fun way to exercise with family, take a walk around the block with your dog dressed up in a holiday outfit, or jog around the neighborhood to support our students through Promise Scholars.
Tag us on Instagram or Twitter @OntMontPS with photos of you and your family dressed up in holiday gear or your dog friend on the day of the virtual event for chances to win prizes. It is about 6,250 steps to equal a 5K, so plan your route and get on the move. Don’t forget to wear a mask to protect your friends and family and have fun!
For adults the City is doing a $20 5K Run/Walk. To register, link here: http://www.ontario5krun.com/
For students we are doing a $5 1K Dash (link below). There will be prizes drawn from the 1K Rudolph Dash participants and after Dec. 1 students can pick up Dash bibs at their school sites during meal pick-ups. https://bit.ly/34DPgyE
Student Opportunities & Supports
Social Emotional Learning
During the month of December, your child’s SEL instruction will focus on Social Awareness to develop perspective-taking and empathy skills when working with others. Conflict is a normal part of life, and happens between friends, siblings, children, and parents. Effective conflict resolution keeps relationships intact.
Students will learn they can reach positive agreements and strengthen their relationships with others.
