Literacy Enrichment Activity
The latest TMC literacy enrichment activity for our students was a creative project. Students were asked to work in teams during advisory to design a book cover, create an insert, and write a summary for the back cover. Check out the pictures below to see some of the great work TMS students completed!

Mrs. Estrada Students describe Mrs. Estrada as... She is helpful, unique, kind, helpful, caring, super cool, nice, fun, and bestieess. Get to know Mrs. Estrada: 1. Where did you go to college? I got my bachelors at ENMU in Portales in Elementary Education and my masters in curriculum and instruction at NMSU in Las Cruces 2. What three traits define you best? I am easy-going. I am very much a momma bear. I try to always be happy/positive. 3. What would you like to be your greatest accomplishment? My children. I love watching them grow up and become themselves. I love being their number 1 supporter. I know that I helped them to have confidence and pushed them to do their best. 4. What's one thing you couldn't live without? My family. But besides them caffeine 5. What is your favorite thing to do? Watch movies, read, or watch my shows. I love Legacies and Charmed 6. Where is the best place you've traveled to and why? Atlanta, Georgia. It was my graduation gift from my parents. My dad took me to see the Braves play. It was such a great trip just the two of us. I enjoyed the baseball game and the stadium. 7. Who is your biggest inspiration? My mom. I get my strength from her. When I was little, I never knew the struggles that she endured and she always had time for me. She always loved me and made sure I was taken care of. 8. What advice do you have for kids who are struggling at school? Find an adult to help you. That person can be a parent, a relative, a teacher, an office employee, librarian, counselor, custodian, or a neighbor. Talk to them-deal with your problems. Ask them to help hold you accountable to your goals. Having someone, check in on you will help you with school. 9. What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13? Hold on. It is a bumpy ride but it all works out in the end. 10. What is the best book you have ever read? Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull (there is a spin off series Dragonwatch) 11. Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

She is caring, compassionate, fun, amazing, fun, nice, kind, respectful, and helpful. Get to know Ms. Castellanos: 1. Where did you go to college? I obtained an AA at New Mexico Junior College, a BBA at University of the Southwest, and an MBA at Wayland Baptist University. 2. What three traits define you best? Adaptable, adventurous, and persistent. 3. What would you like to be your greatest accomplishment? I want to earn a PhD. 4. What’s one thing you couldn’t live without? Carbohydrates. 5. What is your favorite thing to do? Read and practice yoga. 6. Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why? Puerto Rico. I had a wonderful time snorkeling, though I was stung by a family of moon jellyfish. 7. Who is your biggest inspiration? My daughter. 8. What advice do you have for kids who are struggling at school? Enjoy your educational journey! Failures are part of it. They’re meant to serve you, not keep you back. Don’t give up. Seek the help you need. You are−ultimately−responsible for your own academic success. 9. What would you most likely to tell yourself at age 13? Save more than you spend. Read, read, and read some more. 10. I taught basic and advance belly dance for 5 consecutive years. | Ms. AstudilloStudents describe Mrs. Asutdillo... She is always there for you and helps you, nice, caring, chill, funny, cool, kind, patient, fun, sweet, and helpful. Get to know Mrs. Asutdillo: 1. Where did you go to college? University of the Southwest 2. What three traits define you best? Outgoing, compassionate, 3. What would you like to be your greatest accomplishment? My children. 4. What's one thing you couldn't live without? TRUE BREW!! (Not sure how I survived before it was built) 5. What is your favorite thing to do? Playing board games and cards with family and friends 6. Where is the best place you've traveled to and why? I traveled 27 hours in a car with my two children, mom and sister to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina to see my brother. I also got my first tattoo which matches my sister’s and mom’s 7. Who is your biggest inspiration? My Grandma Nette. She was understanding and calm. She never judged you and was always willing to help. It was because of her, I finished my degree in teaching. 8. What advice do you have for kids who are struggling at school? I would tell you to not give up and find a teacher that can help you through it. 9. What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13? Focus on school and your grades. 10. What is the best book you have ever read? That’s a hard question to answer… I LOVE BOOKS!! I do love reading books by Richard Paul Evans, Nicholas Sparks, and Kristin Hannah 11.
