Standards Based Report Cards Frequently Asked Question(s)
Partial command means a student has some mastery of the standard but is not independently nor consistently demonstrating mastery of the standard. The end of the year goal is for a student to be at strong command where they can independently and consistently demonstrate command of the standard. Teachers consistently assess students to monitor their progress toward mastery.
If a student is in need of an intervention to support their efforts toward strong command, the teacher will be in contact to give feedback on ways to assist the student in meeting the end of year goal. Please do not hesitate to contact the teacher if a question arises once a student receives a mark of partial command. It is not uncommon for a student to have a mark of partial command for more than one marking period.
2. What academic recognitions will replace Honor Roll?
Administration, teachers, and staff are in the process of identifying ways of recognizing academic success and improvements for students K-5 using our school-wide S.O.A.R.R.ing expectations.
Each grade level teacher K-5 will submit names for recognitions based on academic successes and improvements for identified standard(s) and/or content area(s) (e.g., reading, math, science, social studies, writing).
We will pilot how this will work beginning with the S.O.A.R.R. Awards Assembly for Marking Period 3 in April 2018. During this time, we will introduce two new categories for academic recognitions. For example, but not limited to: Principal's Academic S.O.A.R.R.ing Award and S.O.A.R.R.ing Academic Acheivement Award. Proposed categories are expected to replace existing A Honor Roll and A/B Honor Roll.
Starting the transition now will allow us to actively assess the new processes we are implementing for academic recognitions to effectively build consistency for all students K-5.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school and speak with administration. Thank you for your support as we transition to the new system of academic recognitions for our students.
L.E.S. PTA Executive Board Members Needed!
At this time, we specifically need to fill Executive Board positions for the 2018-19 school year, so please consider volunteering for Secretary, Vice-President, or President!
We welcome fresh new ideas and experiences for students to reflect upon for years to come.
To learn more about any PTA role or to make an Executive Board position nomination, please contact Jennifer Salter at jennsalter@gmail.com.
As a new principal coming into L.E.S., the current PTA Board has been extremely visionary and supportive in their efforts to provide meaningful experiences for our students. If you are interested in leading Leonardtown Elementary PTA for the next two years, please contact Jennifer Salter at jennsalter@gmial.com. Thank you for your support.
