Sycamore Community Schools

March 2020

Monitoring COVID-19

As with the cold and flu, Sycamore Community Schools is closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus.

District safety and health administrators have been working with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Ohio Department of Health to determine what actions are necessary for the interest of student safety and wellness. This includes monitoring evolving advisories from federal and international agencies regarding international travel.

According to the CDC, there are currently no cases of coronavirus in Ohio and the risk to the U.S. public is considered low at this time.

COVID-19 and School-Sponsored Trips

Families of students who are currently scheduled to travel overseas for school-sponsored Spring Break trips will be receiving information from the district on March 3. Please check your email for an update on the status of these trips.

Get Informed

The CDC continues to provide up-to-date information on its website. Please visit "What You Need to Know About the Coronavirus" for more information. You can also learn more about “Stopping the Spread of COVID-19” and “What to do if you are sick with COVID-19”. We also encourage families to check the Student Health Handbook and the Health Services page of our website for more information.

Building Design Updates

Community members, staff members, and students continue to work collaboratively with the Sycamore Board of Education and SHP Leading Design professionals to inform the design process for a new intermediate and junior high school as well as renovated Symmes Elementary and Sycamore High School.

On February 27, the district held its first Community Design Forum to provide an update on the building design process. You can view the presentation below. Please note: the survey conducted in this video is now closed.

Always an Aviator

"Always an Aviator" means leaving a lasting legacy on the Sycamore Community Schools. Come join us as we unveil that vision of that legacy on April 3, 2020. Sycamore Community Schools has done extensive assessments of our facilities, including renovations and potential replacement of the aging athletic venues. Currently, our facilities are leaving our student-athletes at a disadvantage compared to other league schools. Our leadership does not find that acceptable and is taking action. While the funding included in the bond issue will address some of the aging needs throughout the district, it does not satisfy the goal of our capital campaign: to go beyond providing standard facilities to our student-athletes and community and reach elite facilities that will match the excellence of our phenomenal district.
