Growing with STEM in 4th Grade

January 11th-15th

Welcome Back from Winter Break

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Winter Break. I know we teachers had an enjoyable and restful break. However, we wished there could have been another week of vacation. It was great to see everyone back this first week. I know it was hard to wake up to the early alarms again, but I am excited to see what the spring has in store.

No Math Tutoring this Week!!

There will be no Math tutoring this week. There will still be tutoring for Reading!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Nuhu.

What we are learning this week!

Math- Scholars will be learning about division concepts and strategies.

Science- Scholars will continue to work on identifying and differentiating between the different forms of energy.

Social Studies- Scholars will be learning about the growing conflict with Mexico and how this led to the Texas Revolution, Texas's Independence, and the formation of the Republic of Texas.

Reading- Scholars will be demonstrating their comprehension by performing in a play.

Writing- Scholars will be continuing to work on their writing by identifying the main idea and assessing the relevance of supporting details.

Spelling: Tests now on THURSDAYS

Starting last week, we have moved the weekly spelling test to Thursdays instead of Fridays. We believe that scholars will have ample study time, and this would allow us to dedicate more time to writing on Fridays instead of spending so much time taking a spelling test.

Please help remind your scholars to be practicing on Spelling City and that WEDNESDAY is now their last night to study!

Homework Update: Sentence Combining

Homework has changed a few times over the course of the year. We started with cursive and then transitioned into grammar. In order to get our scholars prepared for their approaching STAAR test, we have switched to sentence combining homework.

This will assess scholars on how well they can correctly combine sentences and if they can identify why the incorrect answers are not correct.

This will still be due every FRIDAY along with their Math homework.

Inclement Weather Procedures

As the temperatures drop and the potential for inclement weather increases, GCISD is encouraging parents to receive important news and alerts via text message. To sign up for text alerts, parents should text "Yes" to 68453 to subscribe to this service. The cell phone number used must be listed in Skyward Family Access, in order for a parent to receive text messages from the district office or Cannon. Parents may check or change the phone number listed by logging in to Family Access and clicking the button to update their phone numbers.
