A Note from Mrs. Wilson

Hello CCS Families!

There are a lot of informational items in this week's newsletter, and I hope that you are able to take some time to read through all of the information. We'll have lots of photos and classroom happenings to share in our next newsletter on January 21st!

My hope is that everyone enjoyed their winter break, and that you're ready for all that 2022 has to offer! Our students and staff have already been busy this week working on routines, winter benchmarking, and setting goals for the rest of winter and the spring.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. Jessica Wilson, Principal

CCS Winter Benchmark Assessments

Happy New Year! As we welcome our students back for the start of 2022, they will be participating in Winter Benchmarking. Staff will collect and review mid-year student data in reading and math for grades K-8. Classroom teachers will collaborate with support staff as we continue to provide targeted instruction to ensure student growth within the classroom and through intervention groups here at CCS. Please encourage your child to take their time and show what they know!

School Counseling Intern

We are excited to introduce you to a new member of the CCS community for the spring semester. Melissa Arnst is a graduate student in Counseling at Plymouth State University. She will join us on Mondays and Tuesdays through the end of May.

National Assessment of Educational Progress

Each year schools are randomly selected to participate in the NAEP assessment. This year Chichester’s 8th grade students will take the NAEP assessment on Tuesday, February 8th. If your child is in the 8th grade please read the attached informational letter for more information.

DARE

We are pleased to welcome Officer Stacey Fiske from the Merrimack County Sheriff’s Department back to Chichester Central School to present DARE to our 6th grade students. DARE is a 10 week program which will begin on Tuesday, January 11th. The program will conclude with a graduation ceremony which will be held during the school day. More information about the graduation will be sent home as the day approaches. To learn more about the DARE program please visit https://dare.org/ .

January Family Engagement Ideas

Family activities can help children do well in school. Spending just a few minutes a week can make a big impact. Pick 2-3 from this list each week and have fun! Share photos of your participation for upcoming newsletters to Laurie Jaquith ljaquith@sau53.org. Thank you!

The new year is a great time to start a new routine. Try incorporating a few of these ideas into your family routine

.

  • Physical exercise - walk around the house, inside and out. Climb the stairs. Set a timer for 15 minutes.
  • Start a journal- track your activities, the time you spent on them and the foods you eat each day.
  • Read aloud daily - while dinner is cooking, waiting for a family member, etc
  • Create a tower out of marshmallows and toothpicks. How tall can you make it?
  • Have an indoor snowball fight with cotton balls!
  • Play a card game- Memory and Go Fish are fun choices.
  • Find a word puzzle to play - word searches and crossword puzzles.
  • How many words can you make using the letters in JANUARY?
  • Talk about animals in the winter. What do birds do? Bears? Do some research together.
  • Practice planning ahead with your child - what will you do next weekend?
  • Do a clean out - can you donate some toys you no longer play with or clothes that no longer fit?
  • Practice elapsed time - how long until bedtime? How long until school starts the next day?
  • Play eye spy while traveling in the car - look for colors, letters, words, and shapes!

STUDENTS GRADE 1-6
2022 CLEAN WATER WEEK POSTER CONTEST
The 2022 Theme: The Journey of a Raindrop

National Clean Water Week is celebrated every year in June to remind everyone of the importance of protecting our water resources. Members of the NHWPCA dedicate their careers to keeping our waters clean in NH by operating wastewater treatment plants which help to eliminate pollution in our rivers, lakes, and streams. The Poster Contest was established to help spread the word about the need to keep our waters clean and unpolluted. See attached FAQ sheet and application form for additional information.

Winning entries receive: cash prizes, a dinner awards ceremony hosted by the NHDES and the NHWPCA and a chance to meet the Governor.

SPONSORED BY NEW HAMPSHIRE WATER POLLUTION CONTROL ASSOCIATION & NEW HAMPSHIRE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

Please see attached frequently asked questions regarding the poster contest. Images of last year’s top winners can be seen on the attachment.

Parent Volunteers

For anyone looking to volunteer here at school, or attend a field trip this year, please be sure that your fingerprints are current. Please do be aware that a volunteer must participate in one activity in a 12 month period. We have a lot of parents that were on the volunteer list that are no longer active. Please be sure to check with Vicki here in the main office if you have questions about your status. She will help you to complete the next steps if necessary.

Thank you!

CCS Cafeteria and Food Service

Hello!

This is a friendly reminder that breakfast and lunch are free for all students through this school year. Unfortunately, this does not include any snacks, slushies, waters, or extra milks. These items can be paid for through your child's Myschoolbucks account or you are welcome to send funds to school with your child.

We do ask that you do continue to complete a free and reduced meal application, even though meals continue to be free for all students. Ravonne Eccleston, our Food Service Director, can answer specific questions that you may have. She can also help to get a hard copy of any forms to your child here at school. reccleston@sau53.org
