Baker Bits
March 2022
To walk our halls is to take a trip to outer space! It's out of this world!
We are thrilled to be walking through March with many fun activities provided for both at home engagement and exciting events at school. Keep an eye on the March calendar that was sent home as we turn in bookmarks, participate in dress up days and experience meeting an author!
We have also begun our third trimester for this school year. This comes with the typical increase in behaviors at recess. PLEASE take a moment to talk about recess behaviors at home. Ask your child who they are playing with, how they play, and encourage being safe, respectful and responsible. This looks like keeping our hands to ourselves, using kind words and getting help when needed. Thank you for your support as we navigate difficult behaviors at recess.
We look forward to sharing our halls with you during conferences next week. Our book fair is open and our halls are decked with all things outer space! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have not yet signed up for a meeting time.
Our last trimester is bound to be great!
Thank you for rallying with us!
Respectfully,
Rachel Cimek

Distinguished Artist - Ximena!
Distinguished Artist
Baker Elementary has a Distinguished Artist Program in which student artwork is on display like an art gallery for the school year. Each year 9 students are chosen as a Distinguished Artist. The distinguished artist is a student who is responsible in art, shows their creativity and works hard on all projects. Mrs. Spicer chooses 3 to 4 pieces of artwork in which the students followed directions and completed the project adding their creativity. A committee of staff members then votes on the projects to choose the winner.
Ximena is the Distinguished Artist for her outer space artwork. This was a multi-step project. Students first cut a moon shape and used oil pastels to make craters. Then they blended bright color oil pastels together on a piece of paper. The next step was to trace and cut out circles. We talked about form and shaded one side of our circles to make them look like 3D planets. Ximena was chosen for her beautiful spacescape because of the colorful planets, detailed moon, and wonderful job following all of the steps.
Way to go Ximena!
