Principal’s Message
Principal’s Message
I hope you had a nice Martin Luther King Day on Monday. Classrooms have been talking about the history of MLK and the impact he had on the community, especially as we head into Black History Month. We continue to foster a safe environment where students are comfortable to talk about their celebrations, traditions, cultures, interests, activities, and more. These conversations will often come up in our weekly class meetings and conversations.
Along those lines, we continue to focus on our culture of inclusion and belonging for all students regardless of the time of year or special events. Our building leadership team is beginning to plan a What’s My Story day at GRE. This concept helps students recognize what makes them different and unique, and then celebrate that. We will encourage students to reflect on who they are, their hobbies, culture, interests, strengths, and more that come together to make them who they are. Ultimately, we want to break the misconception that inclusion must require similarities. Although we want to foster connection and common interests, it is not necessarily a requirement or precursor for a sense of belonging. You’ll hear more information about our What’s My Story initiative at GRE.
On another note, I succumbed to peer pressure this week. I bought an air fryer. Those that encouraged me to buy one said, “It will be life changing!” I’m not sure I would go that far, but I’m glad I bought it. I’m still learning the best ways to use it. If you have a “life changing recipe," let me know.
Have a great weekend,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D

Scooters and Bikes
Scooters and Bikes
If your child rides an electric scooter, bike, or other fast moving device, please talk to them about a few things. We are also addressing it in our morning announcements and class meetings.
Electric scooters and bikes can go pretty fast. For those not on a bike or scooter, it is pretty scary to have someone fly past if they didn’t know they were coming. So, if students are riding a scooter or bike they should please do the following:
Slow down when you go past others.
Let others know which side you are passing them. Students can say, “On your left.” Or, “Excuse me.”
Wear a helmet
Place them appropriately in the bike rack

Chiller Family Skate Night - February 4 @ 6:00PM
The PTO will once again host a family skate night at the Chiller in Dublin from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Skate rentals will be $4. No RSVP is required and the event is open to all students and families. Additional information will be included soon. We look forward to seeing you there!
