Media Updates

Wireless Access Points

Our technology department and outside contractors are continuing to work on getting our wireless routers connected and operational. As soon as this project is completed, we should see an improvement in the reliability of the laptops.

Computer Signups

Please remember to go to your online calendar and cancel your time if you are unable to use the computers for the times that you signed up. If you need help, just let us know. Until our wireless is working better and until we are able to use our academic lab in room 203, please sign up in advance. If you wait until the week of, you may not be able to schedule the computers.

Copiers

The broken copier in the media center will be replaced. They have ordered a new one. We should have the new copier by the end of next week. We will send out an email when it arrives. Yeah! The copier in the teacher's lounge has been connected to the network. Soon, you should see this as an option to print to. We will be coming around during your planning periods to add it.

TV Channel 71

Please turn your classroom TVs to channel 71 to see the daily announcements. If you would like to have something posted, just email us the information. We will be glad to share it.

Staff Luncheon

Kudos to all who participated in the "Soup and Chili" staff luncheon. Everything was delicious. I think that I can speak for everyone when I say that the food was outstanding and the fellowship was enjoyable. Hope to see everyone at our next staff luncheon on December 17th. The theme will be "Appetizers and Finger Foods." I will send out another sign up sheet through google docs after Thanksgiving.

Media Center Open During Lunch

Just wanted to remind everyone that students can come to the media center during lunch to read, check out books or work on an assignment. They just need a note from their 3rd period teacher.

Newspapers in the Classroom (HDR)

If you would like a weekly set of newspapers to use in your classroom with your students, this program is for you. Email Rita Bolick at the Hickory Daily Record and let her know that you would like to participate. You will start receiving them in January.

Story Collectors Fundraiser

Next week, our Story Collectors Club will begin their fundraiser. We will be selling Avon to help raise money to purchase our first set of books to read as a group. We will be reading The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey.

  • A teenage girl named Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. Four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left the Earth decimated. Cassie races against time and the enemy in an effort to survive and find all that is left of her family. It's hard to fight the enemy when you can't tell "who" the enemy is.

We would love to have staff members join us as we read this book. Let me know if you are interested. The movie comes out in January.
