Parent Technology Night

Learning with Digital Tools @ NEMS

Parents, mark your calendars!

“How am I supposed to manage this iPad at home?”

“What type of work is my student doing on this iPad, and how is it helping them learn?”

“Where are the materials and resources my student needs to study for their next test?”

“What happened to all that paper?”

If you’ve found yourself asking these or other questions about school this year, then this event is for you!

Help is here!

We are excited to host a parent night dedicated to helping you learn more about how iPads and digital tools are being used with your child in their classrooms, and how these tools can be effectively managed and used at home to support their learning and digital responsibility. In our first year of iPad implementation, we want to use this time to build our partnership with you!

WHEN: Tuesday, Dec. 2nd @ 7:00 PM

Why Attend?

To build understanding for how students are learning with iPads in their classrooms, and how parents can manage these devices at home. This event is not a “showcase,” but instead an opportunity for parents to learn practical information that can help them and their child at school and home.

  • Please register for the topics that interest you in the sections below. There are 4 different sessions and you can register for all four or just a couple--the choice is yours! Note--please register for each session you plan to attend so we can make sure we have the appropriate room/seating arrangements.

  • Arrive no later than 7:00 pm on 12/2 at NEMS with your child’s iPad.
(Note: teachers have been asked that no work be given on the iPad on this date so that parents may use them during this event).

  • Attend sessions for which you registered!

Please park in the main lot and enter the Gate 1 main entrance at the flagpole.

This session will introduce parents to the basic features and functions of Canvas so that they understand how it is being used with students

3. Going Digital--Paperless Materials & Assignments

Students are increasingly using electronic resources over traditional textbooks/materials and completing activities and assignments digitally. Parents will continue to notice a decrease in the amount of “paper” coming home. This session will help parents better understand how student work is being done electronically, and what they need to know to be able to access this work.
