The Chromebook Rollout
Students in grades 3-5 were issued individual Google Chromebooks on Friday, August 12. Please remember general guidelines for all electronic devices--they should be kept dry and in a climate-controlled area. Students should use them on a flat, uncluttered surface and carry them with both hands in order to prevent accidental drops. These devices are very sturdy and do not require a protective case; however, parents are welcome to shop for one on their own. Simple neoprene sleeves work great, and can be found at local stores and online in the $10-$20 range.
We are very excited about student use of technology in school! Please rest assured that we have sophisticated filtering software and anti-theft protection that is in effect whenever the device is connected to the internet, at any location! Google has just opened Google Classroom to parents, and we are working to add that aspect of Google Apps to our current classroom use. We hope that, soon, you will be able to join your child's classroom and see the exciting work they are doing. Also, know that your student can log into his or her Google account from ANY internet-enabled device. If you ever have questions or concerns about student use of technology, please call us at any time!
In the meantime, we are adding to our Chromebooks for k-2 so that we have a total of 90 to be shared among the three grades. You will be amazed at what these smart kiddos are producing with technology! It truly is a whole new world!
