We are a team of reading specialists and interventionists dedicated to creating a lifelong love of literacy. Each monthly newsletter will include book recommendations and tips to help families support young readers and writers.

March Book Recommendations
Blueberries For Sal
Recommended for ages 3-7, this Caldecott Honor classic tells the tale of Sal's adventures while picking blueberries with her mother. They are in for a surprise when they spy a mama bear and her cub who love blueberries as much as they do!
Diary of a Worm
Recommended for ages 4-8, this story tells the life of a worm and children will find that they have a lot in common - this worm lives with his family, goes to school, and enjoys time with friends.
Charlotte's Web
Recommended for ages 8-12, this Newbury Honor classic begins in the spring, symbolizing new life, hope, and rebirth. Readers will love the unlikely friendship between Wilbur and Charlotte and their barnyard friends.
When Spring Comes
Recommended for ages 2- 5, beloved author Kevin Henkes uses colorful illustrations, repetition, and alliteration to show readers the transformation from winter to spring.
Mother Earth and her Children: A Quilted Fairy Tale
Recommended for ages 4-8, the intricate illustrations of a modern quilt tell the story of Mother Earth and her children as they prepare for spring. This new translation of a classic tale explores the seasons as well as the circle of life.
The Trumpet of the Swan
Recommended for ages 8-12, another classic by author E.B. White (Charlotte's Web), this story tells the tale of overcoming features Louis, a trumpeter swan who can't trumpet like his siblings...until his father gets him a real brass trumpet.

March 10: Book Character Day
Ms. Nichols' grade 1 class really enjoyed dressing as their favorite book characters! Special appearances by Fly Guy, Harry Potter, Dog Man, Pete the Cat, and Greg Heffley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
