8th Grader Nashaanth Krishnan Wins State in Geo Bee Competition!
Tustin Unified School District applauds Nishaanth Krishnan for winning the state championships in the National Geography Bee. Students from over 700 schools competed in preliminary rounds. The Utt Middle School 8th grader advanced to compete for the state title and won first place, securing himself a seat in Washington DC for the national competition. In Washington DC, Nishaanth will compete against 54 finalists, one for each US state including territories, during the week of May 23rd. This is Nishaanth’s first time winning the state title. Since fourth grade, he has also earned a 5th and 6th place in state. His hard work and his determination and love for geography have paid off! Good luck in Washington DC Nishaanth!
Nishaanth was recognized in April TUSD Board meeting for his outstanding achievement. Superintendent Dr. Franklin and Board Member President Lynne Davis presented the certificate of achievement.
Mr. Ruben Lopez - Classified Employee of the Year!
Congratulations to our Head Custodian, Mr. Ruben Lopez, for being recognized as the Classified Employee of the Year. Mr. Lopez is most well known for his incredibly positive attitude, and unrelenting work ethic! He is a “Kobe Bryant” of head custodians and we are proud of him! Thank you Mr. Lopez for keeping our campus spotless.
Students Begin State Testing - May 2nd
Students will participate in state testing with the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) from May 2nd through May 12th. Here are some testing tips to help our Utt Falcons put their best foot forward:
· Bring iPads to school every day fully charged
· Go to bed on time to get a full night’s sleep
· Come to school on time and ready to learn
· Try your best and show off what you know
As these tests are difficult to schedule, we are asking parents to do their best to not take their kids out of school early. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We’ve always enjoyed strong attendance during the testing season.
The Spring Concert was a Huge Success
Congratulations to our music director, Mr. Harker, and all of our music students in Beginning Band, Beginning Orchestra, and Chorus for their outstanding performance in April. The students have been demonstrating growth all year in their musicianship. Keep practicing, students! Your dedication is paying off. We look forward to hearing our musicians perform on June 2nd in our End of the Year Concert!
April Dance - Too Much Fun
The Leadership Class did outstanding work organizing all of the details that go into coordinating a big event. Under the guidance of their teacher, Mr. Halili, the class had to create a business plan to ensure they would not lose money, create an advertising plan, as well as coordinate the decorations of the MPR. Check out the video above to see students enjoy a Friday afternoon at the dance.
