Introduction
Where I'm From
I am from pencil and paper, from reeses and altoids.
I am from the green healthy grass by the pecan and peach trees. (it smelled fresh, like clean linen).
I am from the carnation, the oak trees whose long thick branches I used to climb on.
I'm from baking delicious desserts and eyeglasses, from Maxwell and Choi.
I am from the know-it-alls and the gossipers.
From smile and turn it down.
I am from church every Sunday to church every now and then.
I'm from Fort Worth and South Korea, kimchi and steak.
From the hunger of my grandparents during the Great Depression, the love of horses shared by my dad and Grandma.
I am from the priceless memories held in the copious amounts of pictures in the numerous scrapbooks piling up in the tall, sturdy, and wooden bookshelf in a purple bedroom.
Narrative Poem
She's a hunter, stalking her prey.
Just sitting there and waiting all day.
Her hair is as gray as clay
and her claws make them run away.
But with her sparkling eyes as green as grass,
and her walk being full of sass,
there's no question of why she's so adored.
Waiting for her quarry makes her bored,
but once she sees her victim,
she pounces and tears it apart, limb by limb.
After the pursuit, she leaps over the wooden heap
and runs home after a job well done and goes to sleep.
The Sleeping Storm
........................................................Clouds forming, gathering, turning gray
......................................................it's starting to become windy better go
....................................................inside, a storm is brewing. Starting to
..................................................hear thunder, surely lightning will
................................................follow, must leave it's not safe.
............................................Running, tripping, dripping wet
.........................................from the pool, trying to go home. Rain is falling
....................................left to right, front and back, I'm becoming wetter
.................................by the minute. Finally at the threshold! Trying to
...........................open the door, won't budge, locked. Stuck outside
....................in a cold, windy, rainy place. Better go find the extra
.................key hidden under one of these rocks. Thundering,
........................................lightning, and raining more, I need
...............................to hurry. Lights flash, bolt of lightning
............................strikes, can't see, ears ringing, feeling
.........................hot. Is this how the story ends? Will
...............someone come and help? It's becoming
.............harder to breathe. This doesn't feel as
...........though I've been hit by lightning.
........As I open my eyes, I look
.....around, it's my bedroom!
...I must have fallen
asleep.
Ode to my Cat
My uncle gave me a cat in a cage.
She was as wild as a lion!
She wears a gray and white coat,
which is as soft as a bunny.
Immediately bringing her into the house,
she stormed off and hid.
Nevertheless after awhile,
she sat next to me,
wishing to be pet.
She even licked me with sandpaper that she calls a tongue!
Then everyday she lays by my side,
and chews on my pencils,
sometimes even my homework!
But I forgive her because of her mesmerizing eyes.
Her eyes are two fields of grass
with an oval black spot in the middle.
And her claws are twenty needles
puncturing the couch.
But even though she's so destructive,
I still love her.
Caffeinated Delight
Coffee is the drink that you want to hug.
It can be creamy, bitter, or sweet, you can make it however you want.
It is after all, a delicious beverage served in a mug.
It's a caffeinated drink that you can flaunt.
It can also cause you to be awake
and comes with a unique taste,
which goes well with a cake.
Making it a drink you don't want to waste.
Usually served hot or cold,
either burning your mouth or freezing your brain,
it still surprises you by being so bold,
Even though you can drink it plain.
Coffee makes your taste buds scream with glee
and causes you to feel free.
