Boys' Colt G.R.I.T. Newsletter

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
In the spirit of Breast Cancer awareness, we do allow the boys to show their support for this cause by wearing pink. HOWEVER, we do ask this: The pink cannot make up more than 10% of the color shown as part of their uniform. So by what officials have told me, that means they need to pick one item to wear(socks, wristbands, cleats, taped wrists, etc).
A COLT LEADS
A COLT PUSHES THEIR MIND AND BODY TO THEIR LIMITS
A COLT MASTERS THEIR EMOTIONS
A COLT LEARNS CONTINUOUSLY
A COLT GIVES GENEROUSLY
A COLT STANDS UP FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN, NO MATTER THE COST
A COLT KNOWS THEIR FLAWS AS WELL AS THEY KNOW THEIR STRENGTHS
A COLT PROVES THEMSELVES THROUGH ACTIONS, NOT WORDS
A COLT LIVES EVERY DAY AS IF IT WERE THEIR LAST!
Program Takes HUGE Steps In Many Right Directions
Monday night the 7th B Team came out firing and scored 27 points in the first half while holding HMS to 0. We used this opportunity to get our wide receivers a chance to learn how to play running back in our system. Yet another testament to our boys willingness to learn and adapt.
In the 7th A game we were able to start the scoring but then allowed HMS to run off 3 unanswered TDs which took us to the fourth quarter trailing 24-7. After they saw their teammates injured by some rough play, we rallied to score twice and recover an onside kick. Unfortunately in the end, we just ran out of time.
I challeng-ed the 8th B Team to open up the flood gate and let the scores fly, and they did just that. With LONG TDs to guys like Blake Steubing, Kaden Cook, and the rest of the family, we never even looked back after going up 21-0 in the first quarter. The B Team went on to win 35-0.
The A Team came out with a mission to empty the emotional and mental bricks they had been carrying over the last month. They also took to the air to get things going by scoring on Touchdowns longer than 40 yards on all of our first 3 scores. After going up 20-8, HMS answered and closed it to 20-14. Another score put us up 27-14 at half. HMS rallied in the third to eventually take the lead 32-27. This is where, over the last month, our boys struggled to find the resolve to dig deep and win, but we answered back in the 4th to take the lead ,33-32. After Heritage failed to come away with points midway through the fourth, we got on the back and legs of Davis Correia and marched the length of the field exhausting HMS' timeouts in the process. With just under 1 min left, Davis punched in our final score of the evening to put us up 39-32. The following conversion was the most important play of the night.
PLEASE HELP! WE HAVE TO HAVE CHAINS RUN FOR EACH GAME.
7th Grade B Team Defensive & Special Teams Player of the Game - Maddox Stanley
Then Maddox turns around and blocks a punt that he catches as well on special teams. He is playing at a different speed right now than the other guys on the field with him.
7th Grade B Team Offense Player of the Game - William Meriwether
7th Grade A Team Offensive Player of the Game - Zack Sogan
7th Grade A Team Defensive Player of the Game - Joey Steele
8th Grade B Team Defensive Player of the Game - Gage Wallace
8th Grade B Offensive Player of the Game - Braeden Bott
8th Grade A Team CO-Offensive Player(S) of the Game - Davis Correia & Jack Sluder
Well, these 2 guys put on a show Tuesday night. In the first half Jack Sluder was a 1 man(wide receiver) wrecking crew. Multiple catches, 2 TDs, and even 1 pass that he caught standing still and went to a full sprint in 0 seconds to score on. HMS had no answer in the first half for Jack.
Second half belonged to someone we've seen here before. A healthy Davis Correia took the whole team on his back and carried the Colts to a victory. Many times his number was called, and nearly every time, it took multiple defenders to bring him to the ground...and other times, multiple defenders wasn't enough and he scored. These 2 guys were amazing!
