West Lafayette Choirs Update

Your Voice Matters--February 12, 2016

Junior High and Concert Choirs' OCMC Performance

The Concert and Junior High Choirs' next performance is Monday, February 22 at 6 p.m. This short concert is held in coordination with the world language department's One Community Many Cultures (OCMC) festivities. Students should be dressed and ready to go in the orchestra room by 5:45 p.m.

Junior High Parent Meeting Following Feb 22 Concert

Immediately following the choir concert in the auditorium (approximately 6:30) there is a mandatory parent meeting in the choir room for JH Choir Parents. Each child should be represented by at least one adult.

This meeting will be discussing auditions for "The Little Mermaid," April 9 ISSMA contest, and upcoming trips. With so many first-time choir students in the program this year, this meeting is very important.

High School Men at Purdue Choral Festival

On Thursday, February 18, all high school male singers (Chorale, Concert Choir, Priority Male) will be traveling to Purdue for an all day festival and performance with the Glee Club. Gentlemen will be missing the full day of classes and will have a performance at Elliott Hall at 7 p.m. Lunch is provided, but the guys should bring money for dinner.

IMPORTANT: Parents are responsible for arranging transportation home for their child following the performance at 7 p.m.

Upcoming Contest Dates

This is a friendly reminder to check the choir calendar for your child's contest date in April or May:

Junior High Choir hosts a large event on April 9 that will require volunteers.

*****Please note, that there is a scheduled snow make-up day on April 8. Even if we do not have school on April 8, we are still hosting and performing at contest April 9.

Concert Choir and Vwa Bel will perform at Lafayette Jefferson on April 16.

Chorale will perform at Ben Davis High School on April 30 with the potential at performing at State Finals on May 7.

All times are TBD; however if you know of any school related conflicts, sharing those with me helps me to notify ISSMA (Indiana State School Music Association) about schedule requests. Please note that non-school-related conflicts are unexcused from choir events.

OPTIONAL Six Flags Trip May 14

On Saturday, May 14, the West Lafayette Choral Department will be traveling to Six Flags in Illinois for a performance/adjudication and fun day at the park. Cost for the trip is $100 for students (includes festival fees, tickets, and charter bus expenses) and $50 for chaperones (tickets and charter bus expenses). A deposit of $50 is due for all participants on Feb. 26. Final payment is due April 1. Fees are non-refundable after April 1.

This trip is a fun educational experience and a reward for a semester of hard work; therefore, students who are inconsistent with positive behaviors in class will not be eligible for this trip. If a student is denied participation in this trip due to behavior, any payment made up to that point is non-refundable.

Students who choose not to participate in this trip will not be penalized in any way.

Due to limited space on the charter bus, overall participation in the trip will be capped to the first 50 students and 4 chaperones who pay a deposit.
