Dismissal Changes for 16-17 School Year
Parents of Indian Creek Students,
I am excited to tell you about Indian Creek’s afternoon dismissal process known as CARDS – Careful and Rapid Dismissal System. Our staff is so excited to implement this process for the following reasons:
· When weather is bad, it is nice to be able to stay in your car, have your children together and ready to get in when you pull up to the building.
· The students stay inside in warm/cool and dry gym until you get to the door to pick them up.
· The traffic moves along quickly and safely for pedestrians and drivers.
· Children who are walking home have their own supervised exit from the building so they can start their journey home without a need to cross through the middle of traffic on school grounds.
Here is a summary of Indian Creek’s CARDS System:
· Every student is assigned a “Bobcat Rider #” These numbers are based on primary address. Siblings who have the same primary address (as listed on the enrollment form) will have the same number. Siblings that have different primary addresses will have different numbers.
· Parents will be given car tags with their child’s number on them. These numbers should be shown to the staff as you enter the school driveway in the pick-up line. (We recommend hanging it in your rearview mirror so it can be easily seen). There will be two lanes for cars to enter off Indian Creek Parkway. The lane closest to the building will be for numbers 1-250 and the outer lane (in the front parking lot) will be for numbers 251-500. Cars may only enter the pick-up line heading west off Indian Creek Parkway. This will require many families to plan ahead to approach Indian Creek from this direction but is very important to the traffic flow and speed of the dismissal line. (Since all staff are involved in the dismissal process, parents who need to visit with the teacher should plan ahead to make an appointment for after dismissal.)
· All car riders are dismissed from their classroom to go to the gym where they are seated with siblings. Students watch until their number is written on the white board and then then line up in the designated area to load their vehicle in the designated pick-up area in the front of the building.
· All drivers remain in their cars as staff open the car doors and assist students to load the vehicle as needed.
· The line of cars moves pretty steadily once the 3:40 bell rings and the entire line will be through the drive in about 10 minutes, once we have the routine in place and all cars are entering the car line coming west off of Indian Creek Parkway. IF your child has an appointment immediately following school, we advise you to come the office and check your child out at 3:30 before the dismissal process begins.
· Walkers will be dismissed from their classrooms to a designated hallway. When the bell rings they will leave the school out the north door (by the bike racks on the north end of the building) or out the south door on the front of the building (not the main entrance). If you wish to walk your child(ren) home, you can meet them at the stop sign located at the end of the driveway in the direction they are walking. For safety reasons, staff will keep walkers away from car dismissal area. Pioneer Trail siblings who plan to accompany walkers home should also meet in these designated areas.
· Bus riders will continue to report to the back hall and be dismissed to the bus from there. Daycare van riders will report to the gym and be dismissed by the staff on duty there.
This packet includes your Bobcat Rider Number, which should be hung on the rearview mirror of your car when coming to pick-up your student. I am confident you will love the steps we take to ensure the safety of our students at Indian Creek! Welcome to the 2016-17 school year, we look forward to celebrating many successes with your child(ren).
Sincerely,
Dr. Liz Harrison, Principal
