The Cub's Tale Newsletter
October 2019
Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Guardians,
There are several updates that I would like to make you aware of as we approach the month of November.
Student portraits have arrived and if you have not already received them, they are heading your way by the end of this week. If you wish to have your child's picture retaken or if they were not present for picture day, retakes are scheduled for November 21st. Please review the back of your child's picture envelope for on line instructions.
Last week, a memo was forwarded home regarding our annual Halloween Parade. Information on that event can also be found on the school web page. Our parade will begin at 1:30 PM.
By now you should have received notification of the upcoming Parent/Teacher conferences. Teachers sent out requests for assigned conference times via Sign Up Genius. Conferences will be held November 4th through 6th, with the 6th being afternoon conferences. Please note that there will be early dismissal days on all three of these days. Thursday and Friday, November 7th and 8th school will be closed due to the annual NJEA Teachers' Convention.
We have a few changes and upgrades that I would like to share with you. SMS is a component of Power School. You frequently receive voice blasts and email updates, but SMS is a school messaging system that will be replacing Remind. It is important that accurate phone numbers have been entered in Power School so that you can receive important text messages regarding school closures, bus delays, etc. You should have received an email announcing this shift. More information will be forwarded when this change occurs.
I am happy to announce that CSS has changed its format for our morning news. We are now able to record via a you tube app and share it with Preschool and Kindergarten. We were not able to do this due to the technology that was not available to us. Please be patient, as we are broadcasting only within the building and treading carefully so as not to compromise student identification. We will be sharing a sample broadcast very soon. Our students are doing a great job in developing broadcast journalism skills.
Remember to check the calendars on line for upcoming events and activities.
Until next month,
Mrs. Karen Kessler Principal, Cold Springs School

YEARBOOK CLUB -Yearbook club is working hard to create an exciting yearbook for the 2019-20 school year. We will be utilizing technology and photography skills to create a colorful, fun and inclusive school yearbook. Students will take and edit photos, design pages, and choose backgrounds, borders and clip art. In addition, each student will have a chance to design a creative cover that represents our school theme of "We All Can Make A Difference, #MAD." We are excited to create a memorable yearbook for our CSS family.
Our school theme for the 2019-2020 school year is, "Make a Difference" #M.A.D.
We kicked off the school year by creating this video of the book Remarkably You by Pat Zietlow Miller. Throughout the year our staff and students will have many opportunities to make a difference. We are currently running 3 collections through May of 2020. Bins are located by the main entrance and throughout the building.
- Please send in soda or can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House to help support families with children facing illnesses.
- You can support a cleaner environment by sending in markers for recycling.
- We are also collecting broken crayons that are mailed and melted down to make larger crayons for kids in hospitals throughout the United States.
Please join us in showing our kids the importance of making a difference in the lives of others!
