COMMUNICATION FOR SCHOOLS ALLOWING COSTUMES: 2022
Dear HMS Families,
We are receiving questions regarding the wearing of costumes at school during the school day and at upcoming celebrations. At Hazelbrook, we are allowing costumes on October 31st. Please do not send your student in their costumes the day of the Fall dance, Thursday, October 27th.
We look forward to working in partnership with our parents and guardians to make our celebration a success. To do this, we ask you to please review the following guidance regarding costumes that will not be acceptable at school when helping your students make decisions around appropriate costumes. These will also be shared with students during in Community:
Costumes representing other cultures, heritage, religion, or gender identities that do not represent your child and/or family.
Costumes that depict violence, alcohol or drugs are not appropriate. Fake weapons should not be brought to school.
Full face masks or make-up that results in staff being unable to identify students should not be worn. Students need to be identifiable and visible to ensure safety.
Students who do not follow these guidelines will be asked to change. In alignment with TTSD Board Policy ACB Bias Incidents and Hate Speech, the school will follow its protocol of discipline and education for any student who violates the policy.
Thank you for your continued support of building an inclusive school community where we can gather together with a true sense of respect and belonging.
In partnership,
Lisa Dailey
Lisa Dailey

Parenting and Mental Health Event This Weekend!
October 22: 9am–1pm
At Parenting and Mental Health, presented in concert with Shattering Stigma with Stories, you will hear from both parents and youth who have dealt with mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, panic disorder, ADHD, and suicidal ideation. The event will also include presentations and Q&As with psychologists, who will provide information about specific mental health issues kids face, and hands-on practical tools you can use right away with children and families in your community.
At the event, you will have the opportunity to directly ask questions to a couple of local therapists, including a school psychologist. So register now and get your questions ready!
The event is for parents, teachers, coaches, and anyone else who supports or works with school-age youth in Washington County.
Parenting and Mental Health is free to attend, and open to the public, although there will be no childcare provided.
Have to miss this one? Don't worry - we are planning two more of these powerful programs on January 21 and May 13, 2023, at different locations in Washington County, to reach even more families.
