CONGRATULATIONS TO STUDENTS COMPLETING THE GATEWAY TO INDEPENDENCE PROGRAM!
The 5 transitioning students share their accomplishments and future advice to incoming students in their collaborative reflection below.
On behalf of all the Gateway graduates I would like to share with you what the Gateway to Independence Program has meant to us.
We learned how to be Independent
We learned how to independently navigate our community riding public transportation.
We have had many different job experiences that allowed us to explore our interests and practice skills that will help us obtain employment.
Our experience at the Manor House at Greenwell has been awesome. Over the years we have run the Gateway Bistro, a dog bone business, and truly enjoyed the peaceful environment.
We have enjoyed our time at the College of Southern Maryland participating in different events sponsored by the College. It was fun interacting with other college students, taking classes at the Wellness Center, and participating in activities at the CSM lounge and on the “Great Lawn”.
To the new Gateway students some words of advice. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and advocate for yourself. Most importantly don’t be afraid to try new experiences and have fun!
