A MESSAGE FROM DR. H
Happy Friday, Cherrelyn Cheetahs!
First of all, a huge shout for all students who participated in CMAS this week. It was really exciting to see students work incredibly hard to show all the growth they’ve made this year. Daily raffle winners earned prizes from the candy cart, and one class got a donut party because of perfect attendance. Please make sure students are continuing to get rest and a healthy breakfast. Shout out to our younger students who ensured hallways were calm so older students could focus and who what they know!
Please Review: After school use of school grounds
Many students and families use the beautiful playground and neighboring field after school hours. It is a great opportunity to connect with other families, and kids are getting sun and movement!
However, recently there has been an increase in students on the field, some of whom without families or direct supervision. Most recently, there’s been a physical altercation, inappropriate language, and one student who left the field area with their family not realizing for an extended period of time because they were on their phone. Moving forward, students are only allowed on school grounds if they have a family member with them who is actively (i.e. not on their phone or in their car) supervising. Additionally, Champions (our after school care) licenses the playground and field after school hours. So, if a student under their supervision would like to use playground equipment, they get priority.
I want families and students to have that time to connect and play after school, and I want all students safe - please make sure you and yours are heeding this policy. Thank you!

The Power of Positivity
Did you know a positive mindset can change the way your brain works?! “Positivity releases serotonin and dopamine also known as the happiness and feel-good hormones, into your brain. At the same time, it reduces the amount of cortisol, the stress hormone, into your brain, which in turn leads to improved memory, learning, creative thinking, and problem solving.” Read the whole article here to learn more about the impact positivity has on our brains. The Impact Of Positivity For Students by Melanie Hess
Try It At Home!
Positive self-talk: replace “I can’t” with “I can”. Or try adding the word “yet” after statements that start with “I can’t” or “I'm not good at...”
Affirmations: create a short phrase or visual as a family and repeat or view it daily. Some examples are: My feelings matter, Mistakes help me learn and grow, I will do great things today, or I am in control of my own happiness.
