Counseling Department Update
September 16 - October 16
School is now kicked into full gear. Here is the latest:
Personal Development: The 7th grade students tackled stress and mindfulness and are continuing the discussion on protesting and the 1st Amendment Rights.
Career Exploration: The 8th grade students have just completed Unit 2 - Careers & Education. They took several career surveys to learn about jobs that potentially matched their interests and abilities. The students presented their research on the Colorado Career Cluster Model.
Small Groups: Ms. Jacobsen hosts a weekly lunch bunch group with 8th grade girls. They focus on issues with self-esteem and relational aggression.
Newsletter: September's newsletter was about making decisions and learning to say "No".
Staff: The staff received part 1 of Cultural Competency Training. Cultural competence is the ability to successfully teach students who come from a culture or cultures other than our own. We want to give the staff the tools they need to be more culturally competent and build better relationships with our students.
Teen Read Week
Oct. 8 -14 despite being a shortened week, we collaborated with the iQuad to kick off Teen Read Week to encourage our students to read more. The most popular event has been the Blind Date a Book. Over 45 students selected mystery books.
The grade level food drive competition officially begins to day. The winning grade level will receive an ice cream party and get to duct tape the teacher of their choice to the wall!
During Personal Development, students made individual stress balls with balloons and flour.
