The Freshman Focus
October 30, 2015
Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center
Principal's Corner
Greetings, we are approaching one of the most important times of year academically. As a high school student your freshmen will be earning credits at the conclusion of the semester in December. These credits will count toward graduation and are a key indicator of the progress students have made. Because this is such a critical time of the school year, we have a few opportunities available to help students improve grades and ensure they earn credits in each of their classes. One of these is our after school buses for students staying at school to receive academic help. These buses will be available Monday-Thursday from 11/30-12/17. Students will be released to the buses at 5:00 and transported home between 5:10 and 6:15. This is a perfect chance to get caught up with assignments and prepare for final exams. While we are on the topic, final exams are another important factor at the end of each semester. Our students are familiar with final exams from their 7th and 8th grade experience, but these tests take on an increased importance as students earn credits. In each class your student will be receiving study guides that will outline the most important information, please encourage and work with your students to study and prepare for final exams.
As we enter flu season it is also a great time to touch base on attendance. Attendance is one of the most important factors in being a successful student. We have great teachers here at Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center and we want your student to be here for their instruction. Our current attendance percentage is 96.1. We know that illness does happen and would like to review the procedures for notifying us when your student will miss school Should your child need to miss school due to an illness or other reason, please call our attendance line to notify us at 988-7600. The next step is submitting documentation for the absence when your student returns to fully excuse the absence. Tardiness, especially in the morning is also a factor that has a large impact your child's academic success. Please make sure your child is here on time. When your child does have to be late in the morning please notify the main office.
We have a great group of freshmen in the class of 2019 and look forward to helping them be successful at the conclusion of semester one!!
