Winners of the York Minster Carving Competition!

We are thrilled to announce that the winners of the York Minster Jubilee Carving Competition are both from Monk Fryston!! Our wonderful Mrs Chorlton encouraged the children to take part and pupils from Year 1 and Year 5 won their categories. The masonry team at the Minster gave the following reasons for their choices:

“We loved how the tree had been drawn. The branch design is well considered and has lots of movement, you can almost imagine them blowing in the breeze. Planting more trees for the future is such an important message too.” (Year 1)

“We chose this because the pupil has thought about both people and animals. The drawing was really original and the message behind it was full of hope and beautifully written. It will also be fun to carve all the different elements.” (Year 5)

York Minster’s stonemasons will carve the stones, which will be complete by the end of September. The hope is that the winners will be able to attend a presentation ceremony, when the new statue of HM Queen Elizabeth II is unveiled at York Minster in the Autumn. Well done to both children - we are so proud of you and all the hard work you put into your designs. What a superb outcome!

Thank you for your support.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us during the heatwave this week. We are very grateful for the generous loan of additional fans, gazebos and donation of ices to keep children cool.

Heat Pump.

We have been disappointed that the drilling hasn’t yet taken place for our new heat pump. This is due to delays in the geological survey. However, work is due to commence on Monday so if you are passing school and are interested, please do look in. As the work has not been possible during term time we have asked the contractors to hold an open event so people can see the work in progress and we will communicate this to you when we get more details.

Summer Reading Challenge.

North Yorkshire Library Service are once again running the popular reading challenge this summer. This is a great opportunity to encourage your child to read as much as possible during the holiday, as they can collect prizes and gain a certificate. Do please consider registering them – it is completely free to take part.

Pupils return to school Tues 6.9.22.

Don’t forget that school starts for children on Tuesday 6th September.

PTA AGM 22.9.22

The PTA AGM will be held in school on 22nd September 2022. Wine and nibbles will be provided, so please come along and find out what we do.
