Principal's Message
Dear Jefferson Parents and Families,
Happy New Year! Welcome back! 2024 will be a great year for our kids, families and our great staff. We are excited to see that our AVID/Leader In Me Mural was completed during the Winter Break.
The story and meaning of our NEW mural:
Our Jaguar Staff is the most dedicated staff on this planet! And like all educators, our work will never be done. The legacy we leave for generations will be the hard work, inspiration, curiosity, and future success we give to all those we serve at Jefferson Elementary School.
The student on the ladder represents unfinished work yet to be done. This work is to be done not just by our current students, but by future students and staff who call Jefferson our school. The painting of a schoolhouse with a plane flying overhead on the canvas of the younger student represents our Lennox School District. Our District logo says it all: Our students are on the flight path to success. Our school is a TK-5th grade school. What better way to symbolize TK-5th grade than by having a TK student paint the district logo and a 5th grader painting our school’s unfinished logo?
The mural "Imagine Today My Future Self" also has a great deal of symbolism. The students wear khaki pants honoring our uniform tradition here at Jefferson while wearing a polo shirt that symbolizes the colors of Character Counts. AVID is also at the forefront of this mural as we continue challenging our students to see a future where they can aspire for college and a career. Last, but not least, the title "Imagine Today My Future Self" is a reference to one of the essential skills of our Leader in Me program, which will provide students with choice and leadership. This allows our students to see themselves in the future as they walk through the door of opportunities here at Jefferson Elementary School.

ATTENDANCE UPDATES
Parents,
We have updated our Attendance Policy in hopes of providing our parents a better understanding of how we can keep kids at school and, when it's appropriate, provide them with an excused absence and qualify for school attendance rewards.
If you have any questions, please call the office or email Administration.
Attendance Matters!
PLEASE BRING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY!
If you believe your child is sick, bring them to the school, have the health specialist see them. If they are here ON CAMPUS after 8:15am, they will NOT be marked absent, even if you decided to take them home.
School Uniforms
School uniforms continue to be an important part of our school at Jefferson. Over the winter, I am sure all of our students had a growth spurt! Please help us continue this important tradition by making sure your child wears a school uniform every day.
- School Hoodies or Sweatshirts only - If students wear any other color hoodie or sweatshirt, this can be done ONLY on cold days.
- Navy Blue Sweaters - Please avoid other colors for sweaters, except on cold days.
- Closed toe/rubber sole shoes - Please do not send students to school in Crocs. These are not safe for the school environment and could lead to unnecessary injuries.
**STUDENTS. VIOLATING THE SCHOOL DRESS CODE WILL BE SENT TO OFFICE TO CALL PARENTS FOR A CHANGE OF CLOTHING ITEMS.**
We encourage our parents to purchase school uniforms at any store, especially for those of you who have children in upper grades or who have experienced growth spurts. We also accept uniform donations at the office. Please bring used uniforms for our families that need assistance. Please help us by making sure they are cleaned before you donate them to the school.
We will also re-open our school's online clothing store for those of you who would like to make a new or second purchase. All sales are at the lowest price for our parents. The school does not make a profit. The online store will have a start and stop date and all sales will be delivered to the school so that our parents do not have to pay for shipping.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Store Opens: January 12, 2024
Deadline to Place Orders: January 26, 2024
Deliver to the school: February 12, 2024

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Dear Parent and Caregivers:
Jefferson Elementary staff has exciting plans and high expectations for your child’s learning. I know that you also have many hopes and dreams for your child’s success in school and beyond.
To make sure those hopes and dreams are realized, I want to ask for your commitment to making sure your child attends school everyday, all day when possible this year. The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement.
● The more you are in school, the more you learn.
● The more you learn, the higher your grades will be.
● The better your grades, the more you will enjoy school.
● The longer you stay in school, the more likely you are to succeed in career and life.
Regular, on-time school attendance is a goal that can only be achieved with the cooperation of both parent and child. Absences contribute to lost learning. Parents should make every effort to schedule family events and appointments during non-school hours. Students on a permit must have good attendance to attend Jefferson Elementary School.
When absences are necessary, parents should send a note when the child returns. Please be specific in regards to the reason for the absence.
EXAMPLE: Please excuse my child John Doe for missing school on January 12, 2016 due to illness, doctor appointment, family emergency etc. (Please include your signature)
*It is very important that you send your child a note upon his/her return.*
I am asking for your support in helping your child get to school on time at 8:13 a.m. everyday. Remember that breakfast is a great way to start the day and it’s FREE to everyone! Fresh breakfast is served daily in the school cafeteria 7:45am to 8:05am. Your child needs to be in school and engaged in learning to reach his or her full potential. Yet, we realize that every family faces challenges. Please let me or your child’s teacher know if your family needs help dealing with a challenge to your child’s good school attendance. We will do our best to help you and your family ensure that your child’s school attendance stays on track.
Each month the classroom with the highest perfect attendance receives a prize: Classroom Banner, Classroom Trophy and an Ice Cream Party! Additionally, each child with perfect attendance will receive a special prize for the month.
Sincerely,
Robert Estrada
Principal
