Lincoln Lions "ROAR" Newsletter

Week of September 12, 2022

Update from Mrs. Morrison

Students are settling into the new school year. They are enjoying sitting next to their classmates again in the lunchroom and having more opportunities to interact with one another as we find ourselves enjoying a more "normal" school year again.

What are High Reliability Schools? In order to achieve our goals of excellence and equity for all students, we have adopted a new school improvement model called High Reliability Schools. High Reliability Schools is a framework that supports fulfilling our vision of equitable outcomes for all students. It gives us a common language to name what we’re doing, assess our current reality, align our initiatives, and determine where to go next. It is a vehicle that allows us to balance shared responsibility and autonomy to make decisions that best meet the needs of all our students.

Lincoln's PTO is having their first meeting of the school year IN the building on Tuesday, September 13 at 5:30 P.M. More details are provided further below in the newsletter. Other meetings will be via Zoom but it is exciting to have the first meeting in our beautiful school!

PTO Calendar Reminders:

Tuesday, September 13: 5:30 pm - Lincoln PTO Meeting at Lincoln Elementary in the cafeteria

Thursday, September 22: 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm Pizza Party on the Lincoln Playground

The next ROAR newsletter will be sent to families on Monday, September 26. If you have any questions, please contact the school!

PTO Update

Our first PTO meeting will be held IN PERSON at Lincoln Elem School on Tuesday September 13th at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria. This will give all our families an opportunity to meet face to face and to learn a bit more about what PTO will be coordinating this year. Our goal is to keep this meeting to about 1hr in length. Children are welcome if no other childcare is available, but please be prepared to supervise your children!

Other PTO meetings will be held via Zoom one Tuesday each month. Stay tuned for dates and times.

Thank you to those who have volunteered as a Parent Coordinator for upcoming events! With school spirit back in full force this year, we need YOU to make all of these traditions come back to life. CLICK HERE to view our list of parent coordinators for our upcoming events. If you can, please consider signing up! Time commitments are minimal and with good-planning this year, it should be fairly stress-free (and fun!).

Our most urgent needs are for the following:

  • Book Fair Parent Coordinators
  • Homecoming Parade Parent Coordinator (one more!)
  • Student Art Sale Coordinators
  • Printing Lab Coordinator (K-2nd grade parent) (one more!)

WE FILLED THE LOT! The football game may not have been interesting, but our parking lot had baked goods, cute kids, and a clarinet! THANK YOU to the parents (and kids) that came out to spend time manning the lot. We need other families to help for upcoming games. Please CLICK HERE to view our Football Parking SignUp Genius. We run the parking lot for 4 hours on most games, split into two 2hr-sessions. If you are able to volunteer some of your busy weekend time, it's greatly appreciated. Each game has the potential to earn $400-$1000 for the school, students and staff.

We will also be reaching out to families living by Lincoln to be in charge of football parking signage. This will be discussed more at our PTO meeting on Tuesday 9/13.

(4) UPCOMING EVENTS - PTO is planning to bring back our social and fun Pizza Party in the Park! Our first is currently scheduled for Thursday September 22nd from 4:30pm - 6:30pm at the Lincoln Elem. Playground. Come join us for some pizza, play and socializing!

(5) COMMUNICATION - PTO will continue sending out parent emails and sending home flyers as needed along with posting information in Mrs. Morrison's bi-weekly newsletter (sHoUt-OuT to the Newsletter!). Important: High Reliability Schools Parent Survey

We are excited to partner in the HRS process with all of you! We value the voice of our school community and we want to make sure that your experiences are reflected in our High Reliability Schools implementation. Throughout the year, there will be multiple opportunities for our students, families, and staff to provide feedback that will inform the work that we do.

You will receive an email on Thursday, September 15th asking you to complete a parent survey. If you have a child at Lincoln, you will fill out the survey as it relates to Lincoln Elementary. If you have a child at Lincoln Elementary and perhaps a child at another building, you will be encouraged to fill out separate surveys. Each building will be reviewing survey feedback specific to their school.

A reminder message will be sent to Lincoln families on Thursday, September 22 as we are looking for a high percentage of our families to respond. We thank you in advance for taking time to complete the survey!

Changes in Identification for Primary Enrichment and Extended Learning Program (ELP) Services

NOTE: The following information is being provided our district's ELP Coordinator.

Primary Enrichment

The screening process for identifying students who need Primary Enrichment Services has been updated. Beginning in the 2022-23 school year, all students in grades K, 1, and 2 will be screened for Primary Enrichment using the following criteria:

  • Performance on creative and academic challenge activities led by the ELP teacher

  • Performance on fall FAST assessments

  • Classroom Observations

Students who demonstrate a need for Primary Enrichment will receive continuous support throughout the current school year. The units will vary in content, including interdisciplinary units and exposure to differentiated content-specific challenges. All students will continue to be monitored throughout the year, and additional students may be added to these groups as more district data becomes available. The ELP teacher will collaborate and communicate with the classroom teachers to identify and support the needs of advanced learners.

5th Grade Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Screener

Beginning the week of September 12, all 5th grade students will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). As a universal screener, this provides an equitable opportunity for all students to be screened for ELP services, rather than relying on nominations from parents or teachers. The information from the 5th grade screener will help us to determine ELP eligibility, as well as allow us to learn more about the academic growth of students already identified for ELP services. The CogAT may also provide additional considerations of students’ strengths and needs in the general classroom. All 2nd grade students will continue to take the CogAT in the spring.

Families will be contacted by the ELP department if their child(ren) is/are recommended to move forward in the screening process by taking the full CogAT the week of October 10. A change to our reporting of CogAT scores: Families will no longer receive a letter informing them of their child’s scores. Once the scores from students across the district have been received and uploaded into our data system, parents may view their child(ren)’s scores through Infinite Campus. More information will be provided about this in the near future.

Feel free to contact the ELP Coordinator, Dr. Darcie Kress ( or your building’s ELP teacher, Nicole Mooney (, if you have any questions.
