Oratia District School Newsletter
Week 1 - 5 May 2022
Message from Ms Linda
Tēnā koutou katoa. Nau mai ki te whanau o te Ōrātia. Ni hao. Talofa lava. Zdravo. Kia orana. Namaste.
Greetings Ōrātia whānau. We are so happy to be back at school, to have the Covid levels be at Orange and to be able to have you come onto our school site. It has been lovely to welcome you into school and to see your happy children.
At Orange, face masks are no longer required at school, however public health advice from the Government is that masks continue to be strongly encouraged when indoors. Wearing a mask is a key health measure that slows the spread of COVID-19 in indoor settings. For that reason, we ask that visitors to the school, including parents and whānau, wear a mask whenever they are indoors on school grounds. Please send your child to school with a face mask in their school bag, if they are Year 4 or older, in case we need to have them wear them eg. at assemblies etc.
We will continue to keep all the other health measures that we know slow the spread of any COVID-19 in place at school. These include ensuring our indoor spaces are well-ventilated, maintaining good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette, appropriate physical distancing whenever we can and, most importantly, staying home if we are sick.
We will keep families informed of any positive Covid cases that might occur in classrooms and send an email to those families affected, rather than continue last term's practice of daily Covid case updates to everyone. We trust this will keep you updated and informed.
This week we have had a lovely welcome back to school assembly outside in the sunshine on the tiger turf, and an Anzac remembrance assembly. Even more importantly, on Friday we will have a welcome powhiri for the 100+ students and their whānau who have joined Ōrātia School since May last year, when we had our last powhiri. If you are amongst those new families and whānau we are so pleased to have you join our kura.
We have many exciting things planned for this term including a Matariki celebration, a Teacher Only Day on Tuesday 7 June after Queen's Birthday weekend, school camp for Tuakana students and other outdoor education trips. Keep an eye out for the invitations to attend the various events and trips being planned.
Kia kaha, kia atawhai
Ngā mihi nui

Anzac service today

Thank you to Peter Alpe who delivered the prayer for the fallen soldiers. Thank you also Richard Loten and our student leaders for their excellent organisation.
Room 17/18 hand made and sewed their own material poppies.
Welcome card creations by Room 20
At the end of term two some of our classes made welcome to NZ cards for the incoming refugee families from the Ukraine. Here is a selection of the beautiful work and Aroha that was sent.
Outdoors in Autumn time
Can you help?
We are looking for whanau, parents or grandparents who have great ears and have some spare time to listen to our tamariki read.
In Term 2, Oratia School would like to set up a volunteer reading programme again. If that sounds like something you or someone you know could be interested in and you are available to attend for an hour block each week (same day and same time). Please contact kathrynm@oratia.school.nz or leave a message at the office.Out of Zone Ballot - Applications close next Tuesday 10 May
