Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

What do you do when you're really hungry?

So many people followed Jesus and His disciples that sometimes they barely had time to eat. So one day, Jesus told His disciples, “Come away and rest for a while.” They sailed across the Sea of Galilee to a place where no one lived. But people saw where they were going, and when they got to the other side, a huge crowd met them! Jesus saw them and had compassion on them. He sat down and began to teach. Soon it was suppertime—but there was no place for all these people to get food! Jesus decided to test His disciples by asking them how they could feed all those people. What would His disciples do? What would you do?

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, You give us all that we need for this life. You gave us Your Son, Jesus, so that we can have eternal life with You. Help us to always put our faith and trust in You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Talk about it

  • What problem did Jesus ask His disciples to solve?
  • What did the disciples do?
  • What did Jesus do?
  • How does Jesus provide for you?

A big crowd of over 5000 people had been listening to Jesus teach all day, and they were hungry! Jesus asked His disciples to give them something to eat.

The disciples couldn't feed the people, but they brought Jesus a boy’s lunch--five loaves of bread and two fish.

Jesus thanked His heavenly Father, and then performed a miracle, making the bread and fish enough to feed all the people.

Share how Jesus provides for you. The greatest way Jesus cares for us is by forgiving our sins and giving us new life!

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
