The Third Grade Team

Learning Targets

A Learning Target is the desired goal of each task in which your child will actively be involved. In addition, it engages your child in reflective evaluation of their own performance.

Writers Workshop:

We will explore the planning and drafting stages of the writing process so that we can begin to develop an understanding of what good writers do. I’ll know I have it when I can create an engaging lead, interesting ending, and include sensory details in my draft.

Readers Workshop:

We will identify ways to monitor our comprehension when reading so that we can fully understand the text. I’ll know I have it when I can ask questions, activate my background knowledge, stop and review, and use reading strategies.

Social Studies:

We will learn how to use map features so that we can access information from maps. I’ll know I have it when I can use a legend, scale, and compass rose to find information on maps.

Math Workshop:

We will review and extend addition strategies so that we can efficiently combine two and three digit numbers. I know I have it when I can find an appropriate and efficient addition strategy for me.

Module 2 Newsletter

Science:

We will observe properties of an object I can’t see so that I can identify what object may be inside the closed can. I know I have it when I can identify multiple items based on the object's properties.

Character Day- September 22, 2016

Character Day is a day celebrated in 96 countries, bringing awareness to thinking about our character. It uses science to highlight the importance of developing character strengths, such as resilience, grit, empathy, courage, and kindness. This would be a great dinner conversation to have with you family. At Beck, we discuss character daily and model how having good character can impact their lives and academics.

September is ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH!

Our campus goal is 98% attendance every day. We appreciate your support in helping us reach this goal by scheduling doctor's appointments, vacations, and other activities outside of the regular school day. If your child is sick we certainly understand and encourage you to keep them home for the day. Please send a note or email beckelem@nisdtx.org if you child will be out sick. Thank you!!
