Trombly Terriers Taking Care of Business

No School this Friday
Dear Trombly Community,
I want to thank everyone for their passion and concern about Trombly. This is an amazing school, but it is an amazing school because of the teachers, the kids, and the families. You will continue to be great families. The students will continue to work hard and be kind learners. Finally, the fabulous teachers who create the wonderful educational experience at Trombly will continue to inspire young minds in the community, regardless of the physical walls they are in. I am not discounting how special Trombly is, and believe me, I LOVE being the principal here (16 years), but the ingredients of a great education are still going to be in tact: great families, great kids, and great teachers.
I encourage all parents to go to the Blue Ribbon Link (Click here), which is found on the Grosse Pointe School district website, to continue to be up-to-date on the current happenings and facts. The Board of Education has asked us to look into this and we want the community to know this is not an easy task nor one that people want to do. I believe the process is transparent and I trust the committee. Ultimately, the school board will have final say. Please note that no decisions have been made at this time. Town Hall meetings will begin soon. This is an avenue for the community to voice their concerns and get answers. I encourage you to voice your concerns. I encourage you to also listen to positives that will come out of this tough work. I will always be available to talk and try to answer any questions about the process as well. Please visit that Blue Ribbon link and review the slides and information available so you are informed on the history, the work already done, and the work that will continue to happen.
Being principal at Trombly is a dream job. I love being the principal here. I'm proud of the entire student body, the staff, and the parents. At the end of this process, I know my lens will continue to be focused on student learning and providing an amazing educational experience in Grosse Pointe. Thank you for your support, your passion, and your trust through this challenging time.

Leader in Me - Habit #6 - Syngergize
Welcome to the April edition of our Leader in Me newsletter!
Published by the Trombly Family Learning Team
This month, we are learning about Habit 6: Synergize.
Together Is Better-Creativity, cooperation, diversity, and humility. This habit is achieved when two or more people work together to create a better solution than either would have thought of alone. It’s not your way or my way, but a better way. Think of 1 + 1 = 3 (or more). How is that possible? Well, 1 person + another person = 2 ideas + many, many more that neither of them would have thought of alone. It’s taking good ideas and making them better by working together and looking for a third alternative.
Books that reinforce Habit 6: Boxes by Katje by Candace Fleming, Energy Island by Allan Drummond, A Wrinkle in Time Novel by Madeleine L'Engle, The City of Ember by Joanne DePrau, Imagination According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney, Game Changers Playmakers by Mike Lupica
Leader in me at home: Expect your child to use words and phrases like synergy, working together, 1 + 1 = 3 (or more), and “better idea than we could come up with alone” in their conversations, You can encourage your child by using some of these words at home. Synergy is a great tool for families. We’d love to hear your synergy experiences!

Thank you for your partnership in reinforcing your child’s leadership skills.
Camp Invention is Returning to GPPS!
In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), Brownell Middle School is pleased to offer the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention® program to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children work together to create solutions to real-world problems and build critical 21st-century skills while rotating through several high-energy, hands-on modules. The week begins on June 24, 2019 with Caitlin Kefgen serving as Director of the ALL-NEW 2019 program, Supercharged!
Here are how young innovators will be spending their time:
· Exploring the electrifying relationship between frequency, circuitry, motors and gears through reverse-engineering and rebuilding their very own remote-controlled robot.
· Unearthing hidden fossils then building ships and innovative equipment to embark on a research expedition to uncover more exciting information about their discovery.
· Coding and programming robot, Bot-ANN-E, to take on duties and help turn a polluted wasteland into a fruitful farm and successful business.
· Collaborating with the Innovation Force®, a team of NIHF Inventors turned action-packed superheroes, to design superhero gadgets and disguises, explore the fields of engineering and fabrication and take on the sinister villain, the Plagiarizer.
Activities give participants the opportunity to explore, discover and achieve while having fun!
Local educators facilitate program modules and enthusiastic high-school students serve as Leadership Interns, ensuring that one staff member is in place for every eight children.
Register using promo code INNOVATE25L to save $25 (expires 3/22) or PLAY15LISTING to save $15 (expires 5/10) OFF $270. Every registration includes a complimentary Camp Invention t-shirt. Availability is limited, so visit www.invent.org/camp or call 800-968-4332 to secure your child’s spot today!
