Kindergarten Class News
April 10-12, 2017
Thank you!
Thank you so much to those of you that contributed to the Spring Carnival last Friday! Whether you donated items for the Silent Auction, your time working our booth, or just brought your kids to enjoy the event, your support is extremely appreciated. Thanks again!
Reading/Daily 5
We have worked hard on writing the letters Rr and Ff this week. Sight words added to our list this week were "he" and "with". We continued to practice blending letter sounds together to make words as well as rhyming (this is a skill that can be reinforced at home!). Delicious and fresh were our vocabulary words this week. We used these terms while discussing our story "An Orange in January" which detailed the journey of an orange from flower bud, to harvest, transport to a grocery store, and finally ending in a little boy's lunch box. The Kindergarteners enjoyed writing about their favorite part of the carnival/weekend and what animal they think would be the best side-kick for the Easter Bunny.
Math
The Kindergarten students learned how making a table can be a strategy to use when asked to solve certain math problems. We completed our Chapter 12 test which assessed the students' abilities to count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Now that we can skip count we will move on to the fun concepts of counting money and telling time!
Social Studies
The kids enjoyed another Junior Achievement class with Dr. Digre this week that discussed the difference between needs and wants. We also began talking about how things change over time this week. Their personal history and how they have changed was one day's focus. This is our final Social Studies unit for the year and to wrap it up, students (with the help of parents) will be asked to create a timeline of their lives and present it to their classmates. More details will come about this project once we discuss more at school. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and support!
