News from Glacier Peak
November 13, 2020
Remarks from Mr. Griffin
November is here, and it has truly been a year to remember, as we have been faced with a wide array of obstacles during this Covid-19 pandemic. We want to thank all of our students and families for their partnership and willingness to work with us as we navigate this school year. What started in March as a potential two-week disruption, all of us at school and at home with our families, have had to transform how we approach responsibilities related to school. While things have not been perfect, I am proud of staff and students (and our GPE community)! We have grown to be flexible and have shown tremendous resilience. I can't thank you enough for your ongoing patience and understanding.
On Monday, we all were informed that 2020 has thrown us another wrench into our plans, but we will adjust and succeed at this new challenge! Please review the information below regarding our switch to remote learning through winter break. ** Please note - those families that have previously chosen the fully online option for your child, these changes do not apply to you. Your schedule will continue to remain the same.

- Monday, November 16th
- Tuesday, November 17th
- Wednesday, November 18th - Thursday, December 17th
- All former in-person students will follow the remote schedule listed below.
- Week of November 23rd

We thank you for your partnership moving forward with this next challenge that this school year has brought us. We encourage all of our students and parents to stay connected with our newsletters, Facebook page. We want to ensure that all of our students still have access to their Glacier Peak community. Next week we would like to see participation in our spirit week.(Details below)
Thanks so much for your continuous support. If you have any comments, questions, feedback, or compliments, don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email at tim.griffin@adams12.org.
We CAN do this!
Respectfully,
Tim Griffin, Principal
Daily Remote Schedule (For current in-person students)
- We are working on finalizing the Glacier Peak Remote Learning Schedule and will share it out by Monday. Teachers will be sharing their specific schedule with families by Monday afternoon at the latest. Some information for you:
- Students will need to access their work and teacher links through Schoology, just as we did at the beginning of the school year.
- All students will be expected to be logged on to their teacher's morning meeting via Schoology no later than 8:05 AM each day so they are not marked tardy or absent. Please continue to call the Glacier Peak attendance line if your child will be absent from remote learning. 720.972.5995
- The main instructional period will be from 8:05 - 1:00 for all students, Monday - Friday.
- From 1:05 - 1:50 will be additional instructional time for all teachers in a small group setting. Students will be expected to log on and/or complete work during this time if requested by the teacher. This instructional time may include, but is not limited to:
- Extra support or enrichment
- Reading Group or other Small Group Instruction
- Complete unfinished work from the day or additional assigned asynchronous work from teachers.
- Art, Music, and PE classes will meet live daily for 30 minutes. *Live instruction may not be the full 30 minutes as students may have independent practice after a lesson.
- Students will continue to have the same, 1 special per day, that they have had in person until Wednesday, November 18th. Starting Thursday, November 19th students will rotate to a new special class until Winter Break. Your child's teacher will communicate which specials class your child has.
- There will be an all-school lunch break from 11:10-11:40 each day. All students will have the same lunchtime to help those families that have students in different grades at Glacier Peak.
- Staff will be available from 1:50 - 2:20 for Office Hours to offer additional support and to answer questions from students or parents. This time may be assigned differently depending on the teacher's schedule.
- Teachers may assign additional Asynchronous Work to students from 2:20-3:00.
- Teacher Absence - if your teacher needs to be absent, they will communicate that with you and provide Asynchronous work for the day(s) they are unable to log on.
Wednesday Schedule
- Wednesday will be a Synchronous Learning Day for students and the main instructional period on Wednesday will remain 8:05 - 1:00.
- The student day will end at 1:00 on Wednesday. There will be no additional small group time and no teacher office hours on Wednesday.
- No additional work will be assigned for Wednesday afternoons, but teachers may have students complete unfinished work from the day.
- Social-Emotional Learning Lessons using our Second Step Curriculum may replace Science/Social Studies on Wednesdays.
- Special Education Services
- Students who receive special education services will continue to receive those services remotely. The goal is for students to receive this instruction during the 8:05-1:00 instructional time. However, due to a condensed schedule, some students may receive their special education instruction during the 1:05-3:00 Small Group time.
- Other Important Notes
- Teachers are not expected to be live teaching the entire day. For example, the schedule has 60 minutes for math instruction daily. Depending on the lesson and grade, that could mean:
- 60 minutes of live instruction
- A lesson for 15-30 minutes followed by student independent work or small group instruction.
- A short review of previously taught lessons and independent work or small group instruction.
- If students complete all assigned work before the time is up, they are able to take a break, provided they are ready and back on the computer when the teacher has asked.
- Teachers may add breaks, as needed, dependent on the grade, the workload, and/or student needs.
- Teachers are not expected to be live teaching the entire day. For example, the schedule has 60 minutes for math instruction daily. Depending on the lesson and grade, that could mean:
We again thank you for your partnership and flexibility that all of us have had to adapt to due the challenges of COVID-19.
