Jose Villalobos-Technology Practicum student

Jose is a Senior here at CPHS and our first Technology Practicum Student. He also qualified for a job through Texas Workforce Commission and is getting paid to work at school in our Technology Department here at CPISD. He has been working hard helping out our school. He said, "Something I have learned from Frank and Hunter is that even though a million things are coming your way there's always time to help everyone. And it was more challenging than I anticipated but Frank and Hunter are helping me every step of the way."

When he graduates he would like to attend Cameron University in Lawton, OK.

My goals after graduating IT school are to hopefully be employed at some company as an IT technician. Fun Fact about myself is that i have been attending Center Point ISD since Pre-k!

43 Teams and 689 athletes from 1A to 6A competed at the Shiner Cross Country Invitational. The Pirates, from little 'ol Center Point, represented us well. In the Varsity Boys 1A and 2A 5K Division Junior Taylor Vela finished in 11th place and earned his second medal of the year. Sophomore Jose' Castaneda came in with a personal best time of 22:31 - his 3rd personal best of the season - and in 30th place. 7th grader Chris Williamson came in 37th out of 153 runners in the 7th and 8th grade boys division and continues to be a top Junior High competitor. 8th grader Isael Ruiz ran a personal best and 8th grader Jonathan Castaneda finished strong, as usual, and continues to get better every week.

Tuesday October 12th

Center Point Pirates had 6 runners went to compete in the San Saba Region 4 District 29 Cross Country Meet. Mason, Harper, Goldwaithe, San Saba, Junction, Johnson City, and Hunt were all there with at least 30 runners per team. The 6 CP Pirates did a great Job at District. It was a great to be a Pirate!

Julia Whitworth slashed 3 minutes and 34 seconds off of her personal best in the 8th grade girls division and finished in exciting fashion beating out a San Saba runner at the finish line with a time of 17 minutes 22 seconds. Julia PR'ed in every meet she ran this year.

Isael Ruiz cut 2 minutes and 32 seconds off of his personal best in the boys 8th grade 2 mile race and finished passing runners from Mason with a time of 17 minutes 37 seconds. Isael PR'ed in every meet this year.

Jonathan Castaneda wiped 2 minutes and 26 seconds off his personal best and year over year Johnny has taken 10 minutes off of his time. He had a time of 16 minutes and 45 seconds in the boys 8th grade division and he PR'ed in every meet this year.

Chris Williamson medaled and is the 4th place all district 7th grade boys runner. Chris not only beat 7th grade runners, but beat all but 4 of the 8th grade runners. His time of 13 minutes and 55 seconds is a personal best and he has PR'ed in every meet this year.

Jose Castaneda finished the Varsity Boys 5K with a time of 22 minutes and 40 seconds. Jose has PR'ed 3 times this year and year over year has cut 5 minutes off of his 3 mile time. Jose never gives up and he's only a sophomore. Expect big things from Joe next year!

Taylor Vela medaled and beat out medal favorites from Mason, Harper, Goldwaithe, Johnson City, and San Saba. He caught and beat a Mason runner at the finish line and qualified in 7th place for the Texas Regional Meet in Corpus Christi on October 26th. His time of 18 minutes and 40 seconds is a personal best by 32 seconds. Taylor will be working hard these next 2 weeks to cut even more time of his PR on his run to the Texas State Championships!

Please congratulate all of these athletes when you see them as they gave everything they had representing Center Point and you all season and at this year's district meet. It takes a special athlete and a special person to be a cross country runner and you can be very proud of each and everyone of them. Now, let's all get behind Taylor as he trains for Regionals! Go Pirates!!!
