A Note From Our SPECIAL EDUCATION Team
Dear Graham Families and Friends,
As a lot of you may know, April is Autism Acceptance Month. In years past, this celebration was reffered to as Autism Awareness Month. This year there has been a shift in the name and many are referring to it as Autism Acceptance Month. Additionally, in previous years, a puzzle piece symbol had been used to visually represent Autism. However, a shift has been made in the Autism community recently to a rainbow infinity symbol, as a connection to the vast neurodiversity Autism represents.
As we wrap up the first full school week of April, the Special Education team at Graham Elementary have begun working towards gathering materials to use in every classroom, as a tool to initiate and navigate discussions that celebrate Autism and the wonderful individuals within Graham and around our community who have Autism.
This initiative includes finding materials and activities that reflect the opportunity to celebrate Autism Acceptance at all levels.
Happy Autism Acceptance Month!

Report Cards Available | 4:00pm
Residency Verification
The district is again contracting with a third party vendor to automatically verify student address information. As was the case last year, they anticipate the overwhelming majority of our families will be electronically verified.
If your residency is electronically verified, you will receive a letter of confirmation and there will be no need to submit any additional paperwork to certify that you live within the district’s boundaries.
A letter will also be sent to families whose residency we are unable to verify electronically. The letter will provide details on additional information you will need to provide by May 3, 2021 in order to register your child for the upcoming school year.
Verifying residency is an effort to protect taxpayers and district resources by identifying non-residents attending District 204 schools. Illinois law mandates that parents demonstrate residency prior to enrollment in school and allows for periodic verification to validate compliance with the law.
Please contact the main office with any questions or concerns.

Principal Walton is providing a Parent Input sheet for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. If there are issues that you feel need to be taken into consideration in regards to your child’s placement for the 2022-2023 year, please utilize the included form.
If you choose to provide input, please submit this form by Monday, May 16th. Please remember that we cannot honor teacher requests or consider social factors, such as, the amount of friends the child will have in the new class or in which classroom the child’s best friend is placed.
Vision and Hearing Screenings | April 22nd
Starting April 22, 2022, Graham School will be conducting vision and hearing screenings. These screening tests are mandated by the Department of Public Health at specific times during a child’s educational experience. If your child wears glasses, please make sure they have them in school on testing days. Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor.
Your child is not required to undergo this vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist has completed a signed a report indicating that an examination has been administered within the previous twelve months and that evaluation is on file at the school. Vision and hearing screenings are not optional. If an examination report is not on file at school for your child, then your child in the mandated age/grade/group will be screened.
