Can You Guess My 2-1-4?
Enhancing Thinking with Point of View
How does perspective affect content?
Grade
5-12
Big Idea: Students must research clues to guess the subject
Directions
Individual students select/are assigned a political figure/candidate. They must provide two facts, one clue, and four pictures associated with the subject, and other students must use the information to identify the person (emphasize that the pictures should NOT give away the subject).
1. In 1938, she defied racial segregation laws at the 1938 Southern Conference for Human Welfare by placing her chair between the white and black attendees.
2. She earned 35 honorary degrees--five more than her husband.
Clue: She was married to a president of the United States
When to Use
This can be used as a jigsaw strategy when students are exploring any key players in controversial/historical events.
Strategy Variations
Students must provide information from TWO perspectives: one set from a SUPPORTER of the subject/candidate, and one from an OPPONENT of the subject/candidate
This strategy can be used with almost any vocabulary term.
