TESTING TIPS

It is state testing season throughout the Jackson Local School District and tests are being conducted at the high school and elementary levels this week (make-up testing is taking place at Jackson Memorial Middle School). There are some tips and advice to follow so your child(ren) come(s) to school well prepared on the morning of the test. Here are some best-practice tips to follow:

Get a good night's rest: It is best to have at least 8 hours of sleep the night before testing. Get to bed at a decent hour and leave cell phones outside the bedroom if possible;

Eat breakfast: In the morning it is important to provide your brain fuel and eat something that will keep you full like a bagel with peanut butter or breakfast with protein. Also, limit your caffeine consumption;

Relax: Stretch, or try breathing exercises that will encourage your body to reduce stress. In general, try to have a mellow morning;

Chewing gum or mints: You are encouraged to have gum or mints during your testing;

Avoid slouching: Remember to maintain good posture, which will help your body from feeling tired and stiff during the test;

Stay calm: During the test take deep breaths if you feel yourself feeling anxious and if possible, stretch your arms and legs.

COVID-19 VACCINE UPDATE

While it is not possible to work through the logistics of providing Jackson Local School District students age 16 and older with the COVID-19 vaccine on our campus, parents wishing to have their children over 16 vaccinated can schedule a COVID-19 vaccine by going here. The Ohio Department of Health opened COVID-19 vaccines to those 16 and older on March 29. The only vaccine approved for those 16-17 is the Pfizer vaccine.

Aultman Hospital is among the providers offering vaccinations. Jackson Township resident may opt to visit the Aultman West location. An appointment is necessary for a vaccine.

All appointments Aultman can now be scheduled via the Ohio Department of Health’s website gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov. Please note, if a provider does not appear in your search results, it means there are currently no available appointments. You are encouraged to check the website regularly for openings.

Also, Mercy Hospital is offering COVID-19 vaccines at both the main campus and the Cleveland Clinic Urgent + Outpatient Care facility adjacent to Jackson High School at 7337 Caritas Circle. All vaccines are by appointment and there are appointments available this week and next week.

In order to schedule an appointment, please call 330-489-1300 and select option 5.
