WIZARD WEEKLY
Week of November 28-December 2
WORD FROM THE EMERALD CITY
~ WELCOME BACK!! I hope you each had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. I hope you got needed rest, relaxation and your fill of turkey (for a while, anyway!). We have a busy 3 weeks ahead and then we are at Christmas break, can you believe it?!?
~ I have the meeting this week about the grading policy review. Remember (teachers), if you have concerns, questions, feedback, make sure to get that to me by Thursday this week, and I will see what I can do about addressing it on Thursday. From what I understand, this is to review the grading handbook and possibly tweak, adjust, etc. as needed.
~ I will be scheduling our Rigor, Relevance, and Learner Engagement walks for when we come back in January. I will use one of your extended block days to walk around with each team and come back and look at the rubrics. This will be a good learning experience for us all and allow each teacher to participate in the walks.
~ Literacy Night is this Thursday! This will be an "all hands on deck" event, as we expect a lot of people. Each grade level should know their assigned area, but please let Ashley know if you have questions. Santa will be here and pictures are $5 (cash only) for a 5x7 print. The food truck is only here from 5:30-6:30, so please encourage the students who ARE NOT performing to get their food first. Then, the performers (Hoofbeats and 2nd grade) can get their food afterwards. Literacy Night will last until 7:00.
Campus News
~ The book fair is taking place this week. The late night will be on Thursday, to coordinate with Literacy Night!
~ It's that time of year again...It's time for our "stockings to be hung by the 'chimney' with care." Make sure to bring your stocking and give to Lilly by next Monday (12/5). We will decorate our "fireplace" with our stockings. Each person can bring notes, treats, "warm fuzzies", etc. to fill other's stockings to take home when we leave for break! This is always fun to look through as we leave for the holidays!
~ Dr, Chadwell will be here next Tuesday, December 6th at 9:00.
~ The next session of clubs will be NEXT Friday, December 9th, since our holiday parties are the next Friday along with early release. Remember, don't wait until the last minute to tell Diana what you need for clubs. We only have certain vendors we can use.
~ Angie has scheduled a book club meeting for the book Reading in the Wild (the sequel to the Book Whisperer) for December 8th after school. Please mark this on your calendars, if you would like to participate!
~ As our present to you, we would like to offer you the gift of time. Each grade level/department will be given an extra long lunch as your Christmas gift this year. This week, I will create a sign up sheet for each grade/department to select a time when they would like to go off campus and have a nice, relaxing lunch. Your classes will be covered. This will take place beginning next week and going into the last week before we let out for break. I hope you enjoy the time! :)
Be Vocabulous!
Continue to discuss the vocabulary with your students! It's making a big difference!
Here is the copy of the s'more newsletter about the vocabulary program. It has all the words listed for the year, so you can plan ahead! It has each word listed and the grade level responsible. The kids really enjoyed this last year, and I think this was something I had more comments from parents about than anything! They would comment about their students knowing the meanings of words that they didn't even know. The vocabulary parade was a big hit too. Even the older kids got into it and had fun being creative and participating.
Please turn in the "Word Up" Levels sheets when you have students who display the appropriate use of the words. Obviously, the younger they are, the more "adaptation" needs to occur in order to receive the levels, but the students who received the tags last year, LOVED it!! I will put the "Word Up Level" sheet on canvas!
As a reminder, the way the "Word Up Levels" work, goes like this...
All students will start as rookies and all students will have a chance to move up as many levels as they would like. Spirit Tags (that PTA is selling) will be used for levels 2 thru 5 and when a student reaches level 2 thru 5 they will receive a spirit tag for that level from the principal.
Teachers will nominate students to move up through the levels.
