New Professional Learning for Greece Teachers!

It’s an exciting time for Greece Teachers!

We have a new contract which benefits both teachers and students. We will have opportunities to own and engage in choices for our professional learning and growth. This newsletter contains important information and will be a valuable resource and reference guide for your PL. Below you will find the "What, Why & How of the New GTA Professional Learning Contract" a useful guide containing a *Professional Learning Hours Guide including *Applicable Activities for PL Hours, as well as Guidelines for *Greece Professional Learning Models and Formats for enrolling and leading professional learning and *Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). *Guidance documents will be updated periodically.

What our contract says about PL….

Effective 7/1/22 as per Article # 16 GTA Contract

  • Up to 2 building level staff meetings/month (20 hours)

  • 1 building level PLC/month (10 hours)

  • 10 hours of choice Professional Learning per year (10 hours)

  • Up to 10 hours of additional Professional Learning hours paid out at $25 per hour.

  • Professional Learning beyond the 10 hours must be approved by an Assistant Superintendent.

“The agreement also overhauls the district’s longtime professional development system.” Rather than a top-down, points based system, members will now have a great deal more control and choice for their required professional learning. “We researched other models and our goal was to have a menu of appropriate offerings based on goals and interests,” Ebertz said. “It’s really a revolutionary change, where P.D. is more tailored, flexible and on-demand.”

“The contract will also allow staff to provide more of the professional learning for colleagues and get compensated at a higher rate.”

Greece now has a districtwide membership to Learning Forward which includes access to webinars at no cost. These can count towards your PL hours. <Activate your LF Membership>

Greece Professional Learning Center

“A source for teachers... A promise for students”. The Professional Learning Center exists for the purposes of providing professional growth opportunities for the teachers and other school staff so that they may expand their knowledge about educating children and enhance their skills and classroom practices. Our center strongly believes that the outstanding student achievement is tied to a teaching staff that is well educated, professionally current and innovative.

Greece Teachers Association

The Greece Teachers Association was founded in 1956 and is lead by current president Brian Ebertz. We invite all members to join us for Representative Assembly, which is held at the GTA Office.
