Principal Memo
Good evening Falcon Families,
It is official, Fammatre is the 2022-2023 Cambrian School District Read-a-thon Champions!! Flash the Falcon delivered the trophy to us at the morning assembly today. The students and staff were so excited to have achieved this recognition. I reminded the students that we won this year because we made it our goal and all worked together as a community to achieve it. Our TK and Kindergarten classes ranked as having the highest reading ratio of any other elementary grade level team in the district. Our First-grade classes ranked the third highest in the district. Finally, first grader Patrick Tsia had the highest reading ratio of all of the Cambrian School District's elementary students. What an amazing accomplishment! Each class will have the chance to host the trophy we earned together as promised. To cap off the Read-a-thon, we had author Beth Lincoln of The Swifts: A Dictionary of Scoundrels talk at an author's assembly this morning.
As you remember, Tuesday was Valentine's Day and it was celebrated all over campus. In addition, to honor Kindness Week, our classes have started Kindness Chains. When a student notices someone being kind, they are writing down the acts of kindness on a small slip of paper and add it to a chain. All of the chains will be connected on the Friday after we return to school to see how long our Falcon's acts of kindness can stretch across our back playground. In an effort to support our larger community, our Student Advisory Board is holding a Kindness Drive to benefit the Human Society Silicon Valley the drive ends March 3. More information can be found below.
Our Fifth Graders traveled over to Price Middle School this week and enjoyed a tour of the campus. We will soon have Mrs. Worrell, the Price Counselor come to Fammatre to answer their questions and explain how electives are chosen.
Many thanks to Jesse Parashar, Mrs. Voss, and our Home and School Club for hosting what I hope will be an annual STEAM Night last night. We had about 100 people participating in the evening. There were stations set up in our cafeteria in addition to our Makerspace being open play. Mrs. Voss was able to showcase many different types of activities she has available to students during their Makerspace time. She even had one of the 3D printers going for parents to see. We would not have the Makerspace program if not for the generous support from our families. The donations you give to the Home and School Club and participation in fundraisers throughout the year fund the spectacular program Mrs. Voss has created for us.
I hope your families are able to rest and recharge during next week's break. I look forward to seeing all of our student's smiling faces when we return to school on February 27th!
Kindly,
Samantha Haley
