What's New In C2
October 30 - November 9
Literacy
Continuing these next few weeks, second graders will be learning how to identify and create compound words and adjectives. Also, we will continue to study the 5W’s. The 5W’s ask and answer such questions such as who, what, where, when, why and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
In addition, we will be learning about the significance of national holidays, including Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving Day, along with associated songs, legends, and short stories associated with these holidays.
We are working on our Dolch sight words in second grade. Your child has been assessed on these words and we will be learning the second grade list of words this year. Practice at home is always encouraged! If you are looking for some resources to work with your chiild on their sight words, check these out:

Thanksgiving Food Basket!
Here's a letter written by our C5 group:
The canned food drive contest is a contest between grades to see which grade can get the most cans. The grade that collects the most cans (or boxed food) will win a popsicle party. The number of cans that each grade has donated will be shown on the chalkboard by the CLC. The boxes to collect the cans will be put under the can meter for each grade. The cans will be going to the Woodland United Methodist Church to be used in their food pantry. We would like to have all the cans by November 15. The C5 service group looks forward to your contributions. Thank you!
