Alternative Lunch Program

Just a reminder the Alternate Lunch program will be enforced beginning this week, Monday, April 7th. The district has a long standing charge policy and alternative meal policy that insures students are fed when they do not have money in their account or cash to pay for a meal. The alternative meal consists of a cheese sandwich, fruit, and juice/milk. We have recently learned that some of our campus cafeterias were continuing to serve a full meal instead of the cheese sandwich alternative meal in these circumstances. As of Monday all campuses will be adhering to the alternate meal policy. Details of this policy can be found in the Student Handbook. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact Anne Kiggins, our cafeteria supervisor, or the CNS Director Brian MacDonald at brian.mcdonald@leanderisd.org .

River Place Talent Show!

The time has come!! The curtain will rise for the 2013-2014 Titan Talent Show on May 28th and 29th from 6-8pm! Any River Place student in Kindergarten through 5th grade is welcome to audition. Performances can include magic, dance, vocals, gymnastics, instrumentals and just about anything else your STAR can dream up!


The DEADLINE for submission for ALL acts will be Tuesday, April 15th, 2014. Please include a USB /CD with music AND hard copy of lyrics along with this consent form. USB or CD will not be returned. All lyrics must be age appropriate and approved. Piano and instrumentals are excluded from submission of USB/CD and lyrics.

• Each act needs to be UNDER TWO MINUTES and age appropriate(no exceptions)

• USB/CD submitted must be the correct length of act (UNDER TWO MINUTES)

• Only 1 act per child


Closed Try Outs (No family or friends inside MPR) will be held on May 15th and 16th, 2014. All performance feedback will be in written form. For the try outs:

• EACH PERFORMER MUST BE IN COSTUME FOR TRYOUTS -if performer is not dressed in costume their act will not be approved for show

• Costumes must be approved at rehearsal (must follow school dress code)

• Changes to performances will not be allowed after tryouts

• Sign up for try outs will be available on RPE PTA site at a later date


Below you will find a parent consent form. Every performer (whether individual or in group) MUST turn in a consent form, lyrics and USB by April 15th. If group, please submit all consent forms, USB/CD and lyrics TOGETHER! This week in Math and Science:


Math - We will continue reviewing 4th grade skills this week with a focus on fractions greater than one.


Science - In our Ecology unit this grading period, students build on their understandings of plants and animal characteristics and life processes that enable organisms to survive. Through investigating, students will identify adaptations of plants and animals in their schoolyard. Students will understand that living organisms within their schoolyard and other ecosystems interact with one another and their environment.


This week we will be learning about ecology at our Titan garden!

This week in Language Arts and Social Studies:


READING: This week in Reading we will be comparing similarities and differences between fiction and nonfiction texts. We will read the play the "Tortoise and the Hare" and compare it with an article "The Secret of Success". We will discuss the parts of a play/drama and review theme.


WRITING: This week in Writing we will be covering Greek and Latin roots. We will make daily journal entries to become more familiar with the meaning attached to specific roots. We will also write individual imaginative plays that include at least 3 characters, introduction, rising action, climax, falling action and conclusion. We will act them out by the end of the week.


SPELLING: This week's spelling words come from Unit 26. Our skills lesson will review adding the suffix s, es, ed, and ing to words. Spelling words for the week will be recorded by students in the far right column of the week's agenda. Pace Language Arts students will have an extra 8 words per week. Any students wishing to include the pace words into their spelling test may do so.


Social Studies: We will be discussing and researching "The Old 300", Texas' original families. We will choose one family and create a journal of their journey to Texas.

All homework can be accessed online through our class websites (see homework links above). We will have 2 pages for Math and 2 pages for Language Arts each week. If you are unable to print the pages, students are encouraged to put answers on regular notebook paper and bring in the answers on Friday. If you won't have access to a computer during the week, please let your homeroom teacher know early in the week. ;)

Class Blogs!

Students can access their homeroom's class blog from home. The blog gives them an opportunity to practice writing and communication skills in an ever expanding digital world. We have discussed the importance of students using their best "netiquette"! Manners online are just as important as in person. "Treat others how you want to be treated!"
