Back to School INFORMATION

Immaculate Conception Cathedral School

Dear Families and Employees,

As we all know these last few months have been a challenge. However, I am grateful for a deep faith and the knowledge that with prayer, God can calm all storms. Our COVID-19 task force has been and continues to be committed to bringing back a sense of normalcy for all our students. As stated before, we are focused on the following areas.

Commitment: Our continued commitment to families that we will continue to provide an excellent Catholic education focused on our Catholic faith and academic excellence.

Restore: Our plan to restore schools, opening August 24, 2020 and maintain schedules that will not present a challenge to working families. In addition, maintaining flexible attendance policies for both students and employees who are ill or must quarantine.

Opportunity: Exploring all opportunities for teaching and learning to maintain continued student academic progress throughout the year. Maintaining policies for athletics that are consistent with LHSAA guidelines at the secondary level and CCAL recommendations/polices at the elementary level. Encouraging extra-curricular activities with modifications to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Staff: Providing professional development to administrators, teachers, and staff on best practices to maintain a safe environment for students and staff members upon return to school campuses.

Safety: Logistical planning to ensure that all health, safety, and cleaning procedures are put into place to re-open for the 2020-2021 school year. This includes our office issuing clear directives aligned with CDC guidelines, BESE Nonpublic 741 standards and the Louisiana Department of Health and vetted by our task force and trusted health partners. Protocols related to student/employee exposure, social distancing throughout campus, required cleaning procedures and the use of face coverings, will be included in each school site plan.

As we plan for the re-opening of schools we continue to rely and are in constant contact with our school administrators, pastors, parents, school stakeholders and diocesan leadership. Also, I am fortunate to be able to speak almost daily with my Catholic Superintendent colleagues throughout the state. We continue to be grateful to CHRISTUS Ochsner Health Southwestern Louisiana and the medical professionals we have partnered with. As each school is completing their school site implementation plan, they are submitting it to my office for support and assistance. Parents be will be receiving detailed information from their school sites the week of July 27th.

We will continue to flexible to both the guidelines and medical recommendations as they are released and appreciate your patience in this process. We cannot accomplish this without the support of our families. As always, I understand the sacrifice that each of you make to support Catholic education, either as a parent, guardian, or employee.

In prayer,

Kimberlee Gazzolo - Superintendent

It is almost time for the BIG REVEAL! Due to COVID-19, the annual "Cool Pops and Class Lists" event has been canceled, but our teachers are working on a fun and special way to welcome students to their homeroom classes for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Stay tuned everyone! All ICCS students and families will receive virtual notification of their student's homeroom teacher on Monday, August 10. Additional details about your child's homeroom class will be provided during the Back to School event scheduled for August 13 and 14. The ICCS faculty members are looking forward to an exciting school year with their new class members!

On Thursday, August 13 or Friday, August 14, parents and students will be invited to bring their supplies, meet their teacher and peek into the classroom. School provided student masks, as well as PK/K tote bags and nap mats, will be distributed on these days. For crowding and social distancing purposes, families will be given a designated date and time to be on campus. It is our hope that this will help students feel more comfortable arriving at school through the car line on the first days of school. Please be on the lookout for more details coming soon.

For health safety purposes, all students who will be attending school in person will be required to have a mask. Students in PK-2nd grade will be required to wear masks when entering/exiting campus and during transitions. Students in 3rd-8th Grades will be required to wear masks throughout the day. ALL students (PK-8th Grade) will receive an ICCS gaiter mask during the upcoming Back to School sessions on August 13 and 14.

**Students will also be allowed to wear a solid or non-distracting print mask of choice in place of or in addition to the Gaiter mask. Masks should not contain words or phrases with the exception of the student's name or a simple logo. Parents, please ensure the additional mask of choice fits properly, covering the child's mouth and nose areas securely. We also ask that all masks are labeled with the student's first and last name.

An ICCS Parent Volunteer Work Day is planned for next Wednesday, July 29, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help assemble and move furniture, store and discard equipment and transport supplies and other items to classrooms. PTO points will be awarded to all volunteers. Masks will be required for all volunteers and staff members. For more information, or to sign up to volunteer, please contact Kay Morgan by email at or by phone at (337) 433-3497.
