Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou katoa and Mālō e lelei,
We have been enjoying celebrating Tongan Language week here at school in all of our classrooms.
As we head towards the end of Term 3 our learning programmes continue to gain momentum. Te Wao Nui O Tāne are enjoying their preparations for camp including working towards their ventures for their upcoming Te Wao Nui O Tāne Gala. Puawaitanga are enjoying another great term of learning and continuing to see wonderful progress for children across reading, writing and mathematics.
Woodwork learning continues as we head into the end of Term 3 and into Term 4. This exciting learning opportunity has now been experienced by Tipuranga and Puawaitanga Teams. Now, it is Te Wao Nui O Tāne’s turn (Parents/caregivers please keep an eye out for permission google form to come home soon). Tipuranga children are enjoying our Values Based Curriculum which provides our children with the opportunity to develop their understanding and application of our school values embedded within their learning along with huge progress from children in their part of our school also. Well done to all of our West End Whānau (Staff and families) for the support provided to the children to continue to improve, grow, and develop.
Last Friday, we were thrilled to host Riverdale School for the first time for a friendly sports exchange. Thank you to Riverdale for making the long journey down to College Street to play against our Senior Rippa Rugby Team and our Senior Football (Soccer) team. Sport was the winner on the day and it was great to see teams from both schools competing well and in a positive manner. The results were a draw (2-2) for our football team, and a loss for our Rippa Rugby Team. This was a wonderful experience for our children in itself and also great preparation for the upcoming RICOH Sports Tournament that we have a number of teams from multiple codes competing in.
Thank you once again West End Whānau for another great week of learning at our Kura. I wish everyone a safe and relaxing weekend.

PININS ENROLMENTS
A reminder that if your Year 6 child is in-zone, and you want them to be enrolled at PININS for next year, enrolment forms need to be sent in before Friday 16th September. After this date, out of zone students will be selected.
Riverdale School Inter-school Sports last Friday
Last Friday, West End School hosted Riverdale School in a friendly sports exchange. Our rugby 7's team and soccer team played 2 very entertaining games in front of a very vocal, supportive sideline of West End students. This was a great opportunity to build kotahitanga with our neighbouring school Riverdale and we were so proud of our athletes who showed amazing manaakitanga to the other team. All students showed whakamana, by trying their absolute best. Well done also to our amazing supporters who were cheering on all of the players. A huge thank you to Riverdale for travelling to West End to enjoy playing sport together! We look forward to these kinds of exchanges happening more in the future.
Tongan Art
Rm 16, 17 and 5 have been creating some Tongan art. We have used our beautiful artwork to decorate a shaker. We coloured in a traditional Tongan design. Then we cut it out and wrapped it around our cardboard roll to make a shaker. When we are all finished, we are going to practice making music together. We are wondering if the shorter shakers will make a different sound to the longer shakers, or if the thin shakers will sound different than the wide shakers. What a great musical experience!
Making it klikko in Room 14
Room 14 have enjoyed using their Mana Aotūroa skills during Mana Aotūroa time. We have discovered that we could make really big 3d shapes with the klikko. We worked together and some of our creations were made by 9 people. We learnt how to use Manaakitanga as we built our creations.
The Power of Papatūānuku in Rūma Tahi
In Rūma Tahi we have finished up our earth science, The Power of Papatūānuku, with inquiry presentations on earthquakes, tsunami or volcanoes. There have been some fabulous topics and presentations.
Tsunami Mixed Media in Room 11
Room 11 are inquiring about natural disasters. Here are some tsunami mixed media students are working on.

CAR PARKING- ADMINISTRATION BLOCK CARPARK CLOSED AND HALL/ROOM 9 CARPARK FOR DISABILITY VEHICLES
Please do not do not be tempted to use the staff car park or hall carpark when dropping off and collecting your children from school. The administration block is closed for building work.
It becomes very busy and dangerous for children. We have had many families also leave from the Room 9/Hall gate, and observed that many children are crossing the carpark where we have vans and cars entering and exiting at the end of the day. Can whanau please use the other gates around our kura to leave school, as we want everyone to be safe. We encourage parents to park on the street and use the walkways coming into school. Please remember to abide by the road markings on Botanical road and park only in designated spaces (not on the yellow lines). This is for the safety of our children and community members.
Thank you for your co-operation.
