ABOUT OUR STATE
Independence from Mexico
For thirteen days in 1836, Mexican troops laid siege to and eventually captured the Alamo fort in the most famous battle of the Texas Revolution. The words "Remember the Alamo" became a cry that led Sam Houston on to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto. The Mexican army was defeated.
Republic of Texas
After winning independence from Mexico in 1836, Texas was a sovereign republic for ten years. Sam Houston was the first president of the Republic.
State of Texas
Texas became the 28th state in the USA in 1845 and adopted this flag. The blue stands for loyalty, the white stands for strength, and the red stands for bravery.
