Bear Bulletin
Maire newsletter: February 8th edition
Dear Maire Families
We are excited to be in the new office finally. Although we have moved in, like anything new, we are still working out a few kinks and getting used to the new setup. All visitors, including students that are tardy to school, will be using our secured vestibule to come straight into the office to check in. We thank you for your patience during this transition and truly are thankful for this increased security here at Maire.
The last few weeks are certainly a first for many of us in Grosse Pointe. I cannot recall this many snow, cold, or ice days being called. The reason for calling each has always been the safety of our students and our staff, and the decision is made by our district administrative office. I know how hard it can be on families to figure out alternative plans. We are certainly looking forward to more consistency here at Maire after we get back from our Mid-Winter Break.
Hard to believe that we are halfway through the year! If you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher, or the office staff, so we can support their academic and social growth here at Maire.
Sincerely,
Ryan Francis,
Principal

Quick Parking Lot Tips and Reminder
1). Consider parking in an open spot in the lot during pick-up time. It will help the long line.
2). The small lot near Kroger is for traveling staff and our auction winner only.
3). Pull up in the green drop-off/pick-up zone as far as possible.
4). Coordinate an alternative pick-up/drop-off spot (perhaps a friend's house close to school).
5). Pack your patience. We are a walking school with a lot of drivers.
Tips for staying healthy this winter
What’s the easiest thing you can do to stay healthy? Wash your hands!
Times for Proper Hand Washing
Warm water and non-antibacterial soap is what children should use regularly:
- after going outside
- before preparing/cooking food
- before and after eating
- after using the bathroom
Proper Hand Washing Procedure
- Wet hands with warm water and apply soap. Vigorously rub hands during washing for at least 20 seconds with special attention paid to the backs of the hands, wrists, between the fingers and under the fingernails.
- Rinse hands well.
- Completely dry hands with a single-use towel or a warm air dryer.

Important Weather Info
SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION
When deciding whether to close schools here are some of the factors that are taken into consideration:
- Amount and type of snow
- When the snow falls, and when the snowfall is expected to end
- Ability to clear parking lots and sidewalks around school
- Freezing rain and the effect on roads, power lines and tree limbs
Parents/guardians always have the right to keep their children at home if they do not believe they should be going to school because of weather conditions.
Do the students stay in for recess if it is cold outside?
Students go out twice per day as long as the wind chill is above 0 degrees. Please come dressed for the weather.
Sign up genius for lunch/clinic
Of course we still need additional volunteers. Please consider signing up to help us for about one hour in the lunchroom =)
Superstar Safeties Clara Bachert & Evie Berger
Clara and Evie went above and beyond in their service when they remained extra time at their post in order to help a distressed Maire Bear. Thank you for serving in such a caring way, ladies!
