Save the Date: Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 5th! We'll gather at the field/sun porch door to start the day!
Important School Safety Reminders for Drivers & Pedestrians
- Wear a helmet when cycling to school.
- Be sure children are properly secured in your vehicle, even when waiting in the car line before or after school.
- Cross the street on foot only at crosswalks.
- Stay in your vehicle in the car line or park in a parking space if you wish to walk your child up or if they need assistance.
- Let your child(ren) out of your vehicle on the passenger side along the curb in the car line.
- Refrain from double parking to pick up or drop off your child(ren).
Again, we greatly appreciate the many ways we can work together to keep our children and families safe!
PTA Reflections Arts Program
The Lowell PTA will once again be sponsoring the 2016-2017 National PTA's Reflections program, a cornerstone arts program that encourages students to explore their arts and talents to express themselves. This year's theme is "What is your Story?" Submissions can be in the form of the following: Photography, Visual Arts, Literature, Dance Choreography, Film Production, or Music Composition. Submissions are due to Lowell on October 21st. Look for a flyer to come home with your child in the coming weeks.
We are also seeking volunteers to assist with administrating the program.
If you are interested in helping or have any questions, please contact the Reflections chair, Jeannie Iseman, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 630.440.1115.
Box Tops for Education
This year Lowell will once again be collecting Box Tops for Education™. Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help our school earn cash. Last school year, we earned over $1,000! Box Top coupons are on the packaging of hundreds of participating products that you probably use every day.
All you need to do is cut them off of the box they are on, stick them in a baggie, and send them to school with your child (bags of 50 box tops are preferred).
This year we'll be keeping track of each classroom and the number of Box Tops submitted! The winning class will win a special prize toward the end of the school year! Please remember to mark your bags with your child's name and teacher's name. Thanks!
Save the Date: The Lowell Halloween parade will be Monday, October 31!
Join the Lowell Chess Club!
The Lowell PTA is sponsoring a chess Club. The first meeting of the Lowell Chess Team is Friday October 21st 2016. We will meet on Fridays from October 21st 2016 from 3:45-4:45 PM through the end of March 2017 in the LLC. The team is for students in K - 5th grade. All levels of players from beginners to advanced are encouraged to attend. Participation in periodic weekend tournaments, including the state chess tournament will be OPTIONAL (extra fees required). Dues of $75/student will be charged and includes professional instruction led by Chess Master Nikola Mitkov.
To sign your child up for Lowell's Chess Team, contact Josephine Horn at (630) 653-8183 or Josephine.Horn@Nokia.com
Reminders from the Health Office
Please call the attendance line, 630-682-2066, if your child will not be attending school for the day. Remember to include the reason for the absence. Communicable illnesses such as pink eye, strep throat, influenza, chickenpox, head lice and fifth disease are monitored for any significant increase in our school community.
If your child has a fever of 100͐ or above or experiences vomiting or diarrhea they should remain home until they are symptom-free without medication for 24 hours. Complete information can be found in the student handbook.
INJURY/RECESSIf your child has an injury which keeps them out of PE class, please make sure you send the doctor’s note to school. Be aware that if your child is not able to participate in PE class, they are also unable to participate in recess.
Free and Reduced Lunch Applications:
Free and Reduced Lunch applications will be sent home the first week of school. If you need financial assistance with lunch fees, please complete and return the form to the office prior to Friday, September 30. These forms need to be completed each school year.
