What's Happening in the Furr Fold!
IT'S SUPERBOWL SUNDAY!
Today is an exciting day in America if you are a football fan! I just want to say, "May the best team WIN!" or should I say "May YOUR team Win!" This will be the last professional game until August....YIKES! Either way, please be safe and I hope to see ALL kids tomorrow!
Friday, Feb 18th...School Holiday Furr Elem/Prosper ISD Closed
Monday, Feb 21...School Holiday Furr Elem/Prosper ISD Closed
Last week, we celebrated National Counselors Week! Thank you to our counselor, Mrs. Beth Parrish, for all that she does for our students, our staff, our families and and our community. We recognize that Covid has done us no favors and that the need for counseling services has exponentially increased. Mrs. Parrish is working hard to support the well-being of all of our students and families. Thank you Mrs. Parrish
HOPE WEEK ran simultaneously with National Counselors Week. The two go hand in hand. Our HOPE SQUAD did a tremendous job on bringing attention to Hope Week. Mrs. Calisto and Mrs Alvarez head this group up and are creating a student support group for our school!
We kicked off the district UIL Competition this past week. Students competed in Storytelling, Oral Reading and Writing on Wednesday. Mrs. Savage and Mrs Easley head up this academic competition for our school. This week, on Tuesday, the remaining UIL teams compete for the district title, at Folsom Elementary. GOOD LUCK FURR students!
Our 3rd Annual Culture Fair & 4th Grade Culture Program was such a huge success on Tuesday night! I want to thank all of our families who participated in this event! We could not have done it without you! The fashion show, the dancing, the food, the colors, the storytelling and everything else was enjoyed by all! A huge Shout-Out goes to Mrs. Meredith Humphries and Mrs. Chelsea Ashby for heading up these programs. Thank you!
We continue to recognize, celebrate and honor Black Upstanders through the month of February, here at Furr Elementary. Recognized in this newsletter are individual quotes from Black Individuals that have had a huge impact on the structure of education, today.
February is the month that brings the fabulous Valentines Day (Feb 14th). Please look below at our Valentine flyer for more information.
Our Lost & Found is GROWING! Parents, please remind your child to check the Lost & Found if they have misplaced an item of theirs. We appreciate your help!
STAAR TEST Dates are on the horizon. Parents! I wanted to make you aware of these dates. They will affect our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. I also ask that if your child has a scheduled doctor's appointment on these dates, to please reschedule it. There will be more information coming soon to brief both the in-person and virtual students on testing procedures. Thank you, in advance, for your patience and support with these testing dates.

STUFF THE BUS is right around the corner. Feb 28th - March 3rd....This is an opportunity for all of us to give back to our community. Furr Elementary will be collecting 32oz or 48oz bottles of cooking oil, and size 6 diapers. Students will be able to drop their items off in the foyer.
As we are made aware daily of the presence of Covid, I wanted to thank our staff, our students, our parents and our community for doing their part in monitoring Covid symptoms. Here at Furr, we will continue to social distance as much as possible, wash hands frequently, use hand sanitizer, clean surfaces frequently and encourage all to wear a face covering. Thank you parents and staff for your support in this effort to keep ALL OF US SAFE! If your child has any symptoms of Covid, please fill the district screener out. Our nurse will get back with you as soon as she can.
Parents, once you have entered into our Furr driveway, please have your student(s) exit your car. Please do not wait until you get close to our front door, for this slows our car line. My goal is to make sure ALL students are in their seat by 7:40 AM and by ALL students getting out of their car, this will help tremendously. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT WITH THIS.
Parents, at this time we will not be needing a sign up sheet. Our parents are welcome to eat with their student and will need to check in with the front office. In the event our Covid numbers start to rise, we will reconsider all procedures, including the lunch signup. Thank you for your understanding.
This is a reminder that if there is a possibility of bad weather that could result in the delay of the start of school or closing school, we will use CONNECT ED to notify you. You will receive an e-mail, phone call, and text message notifying you of the delay or closing. In addition, the information will be posted on all PISD social media outlets. Moreover, the local television stations will receive notice as well. Therefore, there is no need to call your child’s campus to see if we are having school. If you do not receive any notification, we will be having school and starting at the regularly scheduled time. For this reason, it is important to make sure that your school has the most up-to-date and accurate contact information.
We have an incredibly busy week ahead of us so thank you in advance for your patience and grace! Thank you all for your support and sharing your kids with us! Thank you for entrusting us with your children so that we can make the world a better place. It starts with us...Be Kind!

ATTENDANCE & ABSENCES:
If my child is absent, what should I do?
- Parents should notify the school the morning their child will be absent. Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, all absence notifications and notes will be submitted electronically. Parents will notify the campus of a student’s absence through Skyward Family Access. This will replace calling or emailing the campus attendance clerk to notify the school of the student’s absence. Additionally, this electronic documentation satisfies the signed parent note requirement (state required documentation). When an absence request is submitted through Skyward Family Access, the attendance clerk/registrar will be notified by email.
- When a student returns from an absence at a doctor's office: When a student returns from an absence at a doctor's office, a signed doctor’s note displaying the date on which the student was seen in the office must be sent to the school attendance email within 2 days of the absence. The parent indication that the student was at the doctor will not qualify as a doctor's note. Please go to your child's campus page and choose Attendance under the parents tab to submit a doctor's note.
- FURR ATTENDANCE Link
- Parents will be allowed to electronically submit (through Skyward Family Access) a total of only 5 absence notes during the school year. Please go to your Furr's campus page and choose Attendance under the parents tab to submit for an absence. Once you have exceeded this maximum, all absences will be considered unexcused. A list of acceptable absences (those that will be excused) are listed in the Student Handbook.
- If a student is absent for more than 5 consecutive days due to illness, a parent note will not be accepted. A statement from a doctor or medical clinic explaining the reason for the absence must be submitted to the school attendance email upon their return to school. Please go to your child's campus page and choose Attendance under the parents tab to submit a doctor's note.
- If your child leaves during the day for a doctor or dentist appointment, a doctor’s note must be submitted electronically to the school attendance email on the same day or the next morning in order for the absence(s) to be considered “medical”. Please go to your child's campus page and choose Attendance under the parents tab to submit a doctor's note.

What IF I Need to Change the Way My Child Gets Home?
Carline A-L will be in the front of the school.
Carline M-Z will be in the back of the school.
Walkers will be walked out of school by a teacher. Teachers will walk students to the crosswalk, starting this year.
Parents picking up their student to walk their child home will meet at the front gym doors by the cones. This location has changed from last year.
After Hours Reporting for Potential Threat to Self
What happens if a staff member or student learns that a student might be suicidal after school hours, on the weekend, or during a holiday?
If immediate help is needed, call 911.
Students should make a report to tip411. After the report has been made, they should follow up with the Hope Squad Advisor (if the student is in Hope Squad).
Staff should also make a report to tip411. Once a report has been made, staff should notify the campus principal letting them know that a report has been made.
Download the Prosper ISD App. Click on Tip411. Enter tip. You will receive a message back through the app once the message is received.
